Spotting Scope question

My wife is buying me a spotting scope for fathers day.

I am looking at the Vortex spotting scope as it falls in my price range

Question is there a better scope out there for the money or would you choose the Vortex razor or something different

Are you talking about the Vortex Razor? If that falls into your price range. I don't think you can go wrong.

I am in your same boat. I've been looking at Leupold as well but theres not very much chatter about Leupold spotting scopes so I am a little leery. I believe it is the Kenai. I own many Leupold products and have had to send in a pair of binos which they repaired with no questions asked. Just not sure of the spotting scope quality. Some have said that Vortex scopes lose clarity the higher the power goes...that is my worry.

I have Leupold and Vortex. Leupold is better IMO as the Razor does loose clarity with higher magnification. The Gold Ring HD is pretty solid.

Thanks tailchaser. I have heard Vortex's customer service rivals Leupold as well so that's a good thing.

If you were going to buy another scope, would you buy Leupold or Vortex? .....pressure.....

I've had to use Leupold's warranty due with no complaints and the issue was human cause. We have a couple of vortex products in our house with 2 not far from going back in for warranty work as both are experiencing a cloudy or hazy look when viewing through the optics. One of which is the Razor spotter the other is a Diamondback. Also have several Leupold products older than any of the vortex with no issues.

Only reason I purchased the Razor spotter was because of the price. Got it new for $700.

I've still got an old pair of porro prism wind rivers that my wife bought me about 20 years ago. Your answer pretty much sums it up.
