Shot a dog

If someone shoots a dog with a pellet gun and is convicted of a misdemeanor crime for it, do you think they will lose their conceal and carry permit?

A real life situation that I won't get into detail over. And no it's not me! And this guy is 1000% in the wrong here no question about it.

My dog was attacked by 2 pit bulls while I was gone for the evening,When I returned home and he was laying on the porch and thought he was ran over but wasn?t the case full of puncture wounds all over his neck and legs , he is healing good now,I called the police and they said no discharge of a firearm near homes but I could use it for fear of being attacked.

Depending on the state and the scenario it may or may not be. The problem with anything related to animals, is in the court of public opinion the whack jobs will harvest any opportunity to make an example out of someone. There are laws that you can protect yourself and protect your livestock. On the other hand, if the powers that be deemed popping one with a BB or pellet to be out of the ordinary they could claim it was an animal cruelty deal and that is the one you don't want any part of. In many cases it is a felony anymore. Doesn't take much for one of these deals to turn South in a big hurry. The big thing in your scenario that would get turned against you would simply be, where was the sense of urgency.....? Just something to think about.

Utah. thought about using a paintball gun so the owner knows the dog was somewhere it shouldn't have been. But then that leaves trace evidence so probably not a good idea.

A lot of cities and towns have ordinances against the discharge of firearms too. As a general rule, it's becoming harder and harder to pop a cat or dog with a BB gun. You have to be very discreet about it.

Nice try Elk.. It is NOT me!

SO back to the conceal & Carry thing.. He has his permit in like 9 states so he can drive through those states while carrying to get to his winter snowbird destination. In trying to keep the peace in the neighborhood I mentioned that to him last night that he sure is at risk of losing that if he doesn't settle this with the other neighbor in a better way than the courts and he basically I'm too old to give a #####. Basically, he's too proud to admit what he did was wrong. But that's some pretty big pride to risk losing what you worked and paid for just on the conceal n carry side of things. I mean, I'm sure it wasn't cheap and easy and quick to get all that lined up.. I like the guy a lot, but man, he could be in for a world of hurt if this goes to court.

A quick call to the agency that issued the original concealed carry permit should be able to answer your question. He probably didn't apply in each of those States, it's just that some states honor other states permits.

I guess if he gets pinned with a misdemeanor or something I would think that the state does checks on C&C holders for crimes? maybe not, I don't know. But I assume a felony for sure they do that. Can you imagine someone convicted of a felony still walking around with a gun on their hip? Who knows I guess.

Hell, there is a thread in the local Nextdoor app that is going after people walking their dogs in the 90 degree heat!! Neighbors are threatening to call animal control on you if they see you out walking your dog in the heat and flat out telling you that you shouldn't be allowed to own a dog if you do that. Not even kidding. Lots of people who love their "fur babies". Can't stand that freaking term. You are not a "dog mom" or "dog dad" you are the freaking OWNER. They aren't your kids and if I want to walk my dog in the 90 degree heat that's my own damn business so stay the hell out of it!!

Of course, 90 degrees is way too hot for my fat ass so there is no way I am going to take my dog for a walk.

And if your dog comes into my yard in the middle of the night he might just get his ass filled with bird shot!

Just kidding. I would never harm a hapless creature like that. It would cause too much controversy on Nextdoor!

When the court makes a disposition on the case it goes in state BCI and federal records. Those records are very much checked against outstanding CCP holders.

The shooter walked over with his checkbook and a pen and paid the man the vet bill to make it go away. There was a handshake and a hug to the wife and all is well. One of the better decisions he's made in a while that's for sure. Peace in the neighborhood once again.
