We are planning an Alaska cruise in 2020. This will be mine and my wife's first cruise (celebrating out 20 year anniversary). There's a ton of things to consider especially budget. Anyone been on an Alaska cruise recently? Opinions? Suggestions? 1-way? 2-way? Vancouver? Seattle?

My wife and I have been on that cruise twice. Vancouver was better for getting on and off the ship.

I went fishing in Skagway for halibut and salmon we did good and shipped the fish home.

The glacier excursion in Juneau was great and we dog sledded on the glacier.

My brother was the engineer o the White Horse train for thirteen years. I bought a gold nugget ring in Skagway I wear everyday. The train trip I hear is good and several people told me about it.

If you get seasick this is your trip and the inside straits are calm and the cruise is smooth. When you go Vancouver vs Seattle you stay in the inside straits and don't go out on the open ocean. Last cruise we went Seattle and the last day was so rough that everyone was throwing up all over the place. It does not bother me but some people were very very green. LOL

May I suggest, if you want to get away from 1000+ people on a boat, take the Alaska Ferry. So many options, much slower pace, beautiful trip!

Sure you don't want to go somewhere warm? The Ak is nice, but not much intertainment on the deck and nightlife. Mexico is more of a party with bands outside and such.

Thanks for the responses!

IMO, the Alaska Ferry would be amazing! Maybe one day I'll make it happen. We're going with 5 other couples so my say was somewhat limited.

We ended up booking a round trip 7 night cruise out of Seattle with Royal Caribbean on the Ovation of the Seas. Looks like a super nice boat! I'm not a people person so I'll struggle with the crowds, but since this will be mine and my wife's 20 year anniversary vacation I guess I'll make some concessions.
