A Special Bull

This archery elk season started a few months back with a lot of trail cam pictures of a quite a few good bulls. A 5x6 and a very symmetrical 6x6 were at the top of my list when the Utah general archery season opened. As the hunt opened I seen a lot of smaller bulls and passed on them hoping to see the big 5x6 or symmetrical 6x6. I got pictures of the 6x6 once again on trail cam after the hunt started but it seemed as if the big bulls had moved off and I had no pictures of the big 5x6. I coach baseball all summer and I'm the head Basketball coach and assistant head Football coach at the local high school. My son Dakota plays every sport he can so getting time for both of us to spend together in the mountains and off the playing field is extremely hard. This Labor Day weekend gave us a chance to spend that time together and when we called this 6x6 in I could not pass on the opportunity to harvest him with my son there and watching the entire thing. The bull came in silent and caught us a bit off guard but well place arrow at 40 yards did the damage and he only went 80 yards and piled up. I have shot bigger bulls but having my son with me and being able to share this moment with him will be one that I will forever cherish in my hunting experiences. I don't recall having pictures of this particular bull, but he is a 6x6 with great 3rds. A little short on the backend but a rough score puts him right around 320. But more important than any score is finally being able to spend some time with my son off the field and in the mountains and then harvesting a bull with him. A special thanks to everyone who helped us get this bull out and a very special thanks to my son Dakota for just being who he is and for making me a better person every day that I get to spend around him.

A beautiful archery bull with your boy along is hard to beat---Congratulations on a job well done on the bull and your son!!!

Having your son with you totally out weighs the size of the bull. Although still a very nice bull. Nice job and thanks for sharing.

What unit were you hunting?

Heck of a nice bull and to have your son along, well it absolutely doesn't get any better than that. You obviously love that young man as I do mine. Hopefully you will have many additional experiences like that, yet to spend together. Thanks for sharing.

Good times sounds like a amazing trip. Beutiful bull congrats to you and your son.

Congratulations on a beautiful bull. Those dog catchers on the bull on the trail cam pics are sweet. And lastly, thanks for keeping the youth into hunting, nothing better than shooting a bull with you kids in tow and even better when they can help you pack it out. :)

I was one of the lucky peeps that helped pack out this great bull.
the pictures don't do it justice. also the hill was very very steep, if you notice the ropes holding it from sliding down the mtn. some beautiful country they got there.

& i just wanted to say thanks again for the great hospitality all the folks @ their camp showed to us outsiders. you guys rock!!!
