This archery elk season started a few months back with a lot of trail cam pictures of a quite a few good bulls. A 5x6 and a very symmetrical 6x6 were at the top of my list when the Utah general archery season opened. As the hunt opened I seen a lot of smaller bulls and passed on them hoping to see the big 5x6 or symmetrical 6x6. I got pictures of the 6x6 once again on trail cam after the hunt started but it seemed as if the big bulls had moved off and I had no pictures of the big 5x6. I coach baseball all summer and I'm the head Basketball coach and assistant head Football coach at the local high school. My son Dakota plays every sport he can so getting time for both of us to spend together in the mountains and off the playing field is extremely hard. This Labor Day weekend gave us a chance to spend that time together and when we called this 6x6 in I could not pass on the opportunity to harvest him with my son there and watching the entire thing. The bull came in silent and caught us a bit off guard but well place arrow at 40 yards did the damage and he only went 80 yards and piled up. I have shot bigger bulls but having my son with me and being able to share this moment with him will be one that I will forever cherish in my hunting experiences. I don't recall having pictures of this particular bull, but he is a 6x6 with great 3rds. A little short on the backend but a rough score puts him right around 320. But more important than any score is finally being able to spend some time with my son off the field and in the mountains and then harvesting a bull with him. A special thanks to everyone who helped us get this bull out and a very special thanks to my son Dakota for just being who he is and for making me a better person every day that I get to spend around him.
