"Idaho unit 66 for elk"

I have been looking into hunting bulls during the general season in unit 66 in case I don't draw my tags. I have been looking at the bear creek/Jensen creek area on google earth. Has anyone hunted in that area? and how bad's the hunting pressure? I know it's a general hunt and there's usually a lot of pressure but some areas more than others. I have also read that there are a lot of elk but the bigger bulls are pretty hard to find, but i'm willing to put the miles on my boots to be successful. let me know what you guys think. Thanks - Colt

Not much backcountry in Unit 66. Lots of ATV trails. Many are closed during the elk hunt, but people ride them anyway. Lots of hunting pressure on opening morning and on the weekend from local hunters. Plenty of NR camps to keep pressure on during the week. By the time the rifle season comes around, the elk are pretty skittish.

That pretty much describes every unit in SE Idaho.

This is all true. Idaho has managed their atv trails and general units poorly! You have to find the deepest darkest timber farthest away from any road you can find, they'll be bulls hiding in there! Good Luck

Or they are hiding in small pockets right next to the road.

There are some really good elk to be found in this unit, but you will need to walk a little and look in their hidey-holes. This one was 373" gross, 354" net.
