"Idaho question "

I'm just curious about units 66 or 67 for a general OTC archery elk tag. I've never hunted in Idaho and not wanting anyone's spots just some general info on those units. Whats the country like, are there good elk numbers, is it backpack type hunting or what? I would be happy with a rag horn so not looking for a monster. Willing to trade info for Wyoming or Utah. Thanks for the help.

Both units hold plenty of elk, but also see a lot of pressure because they are OTC. Easier to get around in 66. Both units hold backpacking opportunities, but don't expect to backpack away from the guys on horses. Terrain in 67 is tougher, especially without pack stock. Put in your time and either unit should give you an opportunity at a rag horn. One good thing about the A tag is that it turns to a cow tag after the general rifle hunt, should you miss your chance at a bull during the September archery hunt and want to put some elk meat in the freezer.

Hey guys,

I'm looking at this unit for an archery hunt for my son and I. Planning on a scouting trip late July. Haven't decided on deer or elk tags yet. Wanted to get a feel of the unit. Would love to hear your thoughts on whether it's more of a deer unit or elk unit. Looking at some data on ID DFG site looks more elky? Especially during archery. We're not picky, just would like a chance at some meat and practice our stalking with our bows, & hopefully hike out heavy!
Thanks
