Unit 55 / Valle Vidal Information

I had some awesome luck this year and drew a Zone 55 Valle Vidal / Greenwood Rifle Tag. The hunt is October 15-19. My hunting buddies and I have hunted the Gila Wilderness in 16B and public land in Colorado, but we do not have a lot of experience with northern New Mexico or this unit. As everyone knows, this is a once in lifetime tag and I really want to make the most of it. I'm reaching out for any information on this unit. I have never killed a bull before and really want to capitalize on this tag.

Bugling should be over. You might hear a few at sunrise but I wouldn't count on it although it seems like the rut has been starting later up in unit 53/55.

as you know there are only two places to camp in the Vidal. You don't have to go far from camp ground to find elk. If the rut is over just get to the darkest timber you can find...
