My little brother was able to harvest this awesome bull. I was able to watch him arrow this bull at 30 yards out of a ground blind. He placed the arrow perfectly just before dark. Not wanting to push the bull we backed out. We went back at first light and started finding blood. The bull had expired about 150 yards from where he shot it. It was an incredible hunt and we made memories that will last a lifetime. http://www.monstermuleys.info/photos/user_photos_2016/57562image.jpeg

I am curious as well, how did the meat turn out?
I would be a little leary of eating it after sitting all night without being field dressed and trying to get it cooled down.

As far as the meat goes, we did lose one hind quarter. It was the quarter on the bottom side. As far as the rest of the meat it seemed just fine and still seems fine in the meat cooler. Hopefully it turns out to be ok.

Damn fine nooch and bro!

That's quite an accomplishment to arrow a trophy bull on the Wasatch.

Too bad about the quarter but those are the tough decisions we make while in the field. Push too hard in the dark with an uncertain hit and you might lose the whole bull. Push to little and you lose some meat. It's hard for me to sit in judgement of you guys since I didn't have to make the tough choices.

Congratulations!
Zeke

I to doubt that meat is any good elk spoil extremely fast due to all of their body heat. Alot faster then deer. We had the same situation with a hunter he shot a cow on a late season cow hunt (november) when it was cold. He took the shot just before dark and the same situation happened not a fatal shot she died 1/4 of a mile from where the shot was taken we found her at 8:00 am got into processing her and 70% of that meat was bad. Even though it was 20 degrees outside

Nice bull!
I'm sure the meat is fine. 2 of the last 3 elk my buddies and I have shot were recovered the following morning and both were good. Last year we didn't lose any meat and the year before only a small amount that was on the ground side was lost. Both elk killed early season.
