Manti Late elk question

Hi everyone I have a question for some of the Locals in the Manti area. I have one of the late elk tags and will be driving down from WA state. After my research I've decided to concentrate on the Northern part of the unit. My hunt style is to park the truck and hike the hills glassing all day. So my question, is it worth taking the ATV with me? Will there be roads I may need to drive out on that may be unsuitable for a 4x4 truck? Thanks for any input.

Yes take your wheeler it is a lot easier to get around on a four wheeler than a truck exspecially on a late hunt when the weather could turn at any part of the day, plus it's a lot faster on some of those rough roads good luck on your hunt keep us posted

Ok thanks I figured that I guess I just wanted to hear it from someone else. I Hauled it to Colorado 2x and Arizona once and never took it out of the truck. But your right about the rough roads sometimes it's way faster

Glad I could help my brother had a archery tag on the manti last year he didn't end up getting one but he seen some nice bulls and we had our eye on a couple over 370 it's a fun hunt and we seen a lot of bears as well, the bigger Bulls will be in the thick timber you should see elk everyday good luck

I had the tag last year I can help save you a lot of time. I shot a small 6 point on day 8 of the hunt friend of mind killed a massive 5x6. I saw two bills in the 350 plus range but couldn't get within range of them. I will look at my maps and tell you all of the spots I saw Bulls. It can be snowy and cold

My dad killed 340 bull 2 years ago on the south end. I have late cow tag and know some areas hold some nice bulls. PM me and we can talk.

Wish I could post a picture but I never got a chance at a bull I wanted to shoot. Packing up now for the drive home then it's back to reality (work). Hopefully I can hunt this unit again in my lifetime, great place to hunt.

What size bull were you looking for? Did you see many elk? Thinking about putting my wife in for this hunt next year. She would be thrilled with a 320-340 type bull.

I've seen several GOOD Manti bulls on the north end
in just the last few days.....

A few I watch all last winter...
I cant believe what I'm seeing!

sorry to hear you didn't fill your tag, I was just curious how the late hunt went on the Manti this year. Safe travels

I stayed in Salina and hunted the south end. It was very hot up until Thursday we got some snow but it was so windy we didn't see anything out. Friday couldn't find any tracks in the drainage I had been hunting figured out that evening they had move over the back side. I had to get my dad home Sunday and we had a 17 hour drive to think about what I should have done different (this was my first out of state failure and it sucks). I know this area has big bulls the rut activity looked wild but for a post rut hunt I think you need lots of snow. Sounds like big bulls were all over the place on the north side so that would probably would have been the better place to hunt with the warm weather we had.
