Fusion ammo for elk

Yes Fusion kills em quick. Blows big holes in em. Ive been shooting the Fusion bullets in 300 win for 10 years now, every Elk and Deer have been 1 shot kills. Also shot Antelope with 243 Fusion. Accurate on the range as well. I posted a couple years back i believe on Fusion bullets. Do a search for it here on MM, if you want. Good luck.

I'm not going to tell you not to use it. I am sure you will be just fine with proper bullet placement.

But it was built specifically for deer.

If you go to this page at the Federal Website and use the menu at the top called "Find the Right Ammunition" you can see if they recommend any Fusion for that caliber for elk.

I hunt, therefore I am.
Harvest the land.
Taking of the fallen lamb.

Just don't tell the elk after it's lungs are turned into soup that the bullet was not good enough cuz it was designed for deer.......be sure to post pics after the hunt.

I can tell you that using Fusion 30.06 on my antelope hunt, I had to tuck the lungs and liver back into the exit hole to be able to take some decent pictures. I don't think that the bullet cares if the ribs are a little thicker on an elk. However, if you use them and they don't do the job be sure to let us know. :)

LAST EDITED ON Oct-07-16 AT 11:55AM (MST)[p]Buddy put a cow down last week with his .308 using fusion ammo.

One shot to the neck and it dropped like a rock. He was pretty close though which obviously helps a lot.

Reading where it said it was designed for deer is what made me nervous. That said it says elk on the package! If it was not a 300 win mag I might be a little more leary. This is actually for a cow bison this year, plains bison. I think he should be good.

Fusion hole in the high shoulder of a Bull Elk. Big hole, dropped where he stood.

Those are the only pics of entry holes I have. The Fusion has worked for me so far. Both animals were 200 - 250 ish yard shots.
Good luck on your Hunts.

Isn?t that kind of overkill? Looks like a lot of damage to the meat

What are these "Fusions" you speak of??

Guess you didn't like my Core Lokt?

I tried many types of factory ammo in my .243 this year. Lots of premium stuff...but it was the cheap Fusion loads that grouped awesome.

I watched thru binocs as my BIL shot a speed goat with Fusion. He racked it for a second shot. I said "Don't bother. He's dead but he doesn't know it." The hole in the shoulder was about the size of a softball!

+1
Exactly as stated, now my son only shoots Fusion and has taken 2 muleys, 1 shot kills, neither went over 50 yds.

Fusion ammo is no doubt a great round from the federal line . Have taken deer elk and bear . Although great ammo,I would recommend you try the trophy bonded tip,or trophy copper. I'd say if I had to put them in order it would be trophy bonded , trophy copper, fusion. The guys at federal will say the same . Just mu 2? . Give em a try. !!

My buddy went with his shotgun instead so it was not an issue. He is not the best at bullet selection. Thanks!

LAST EDITED ON Jan-27-18 AT 05:24PM (MST)[p]Most of us out here in the Western states have never used a shotgun for any big game let alone a cow buffalo

How about you share some pix of your buddies shotgun hunt with us?

Thanks!
