I drew a Manti Early Rifle tag. Super excited. I hunted down there a few years ago when a family member had the tag but could always use as much information as possible. I'm heading down this next weekend to get familiar with roads and such. Would love to pick some of your brains as I get prepared for this hunt. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Cortney

LAST EDITED ON Jul-03-17 AT 08:56PM (MST)[p]I've got some good spots north of manti and south of Fairview. I'd love to go down there and spend a morning or so with ya.

It might cost you a few coyote stands on the mtn. I can hold my own calling, but I always like to see people better than me show me new techniques.

I've got a flexible work schedule.

Text me. I'm in Provo.

How many points did you have btw?

What area of the unit are you planning on hunting?

The unit is massive so figuring out the general area you want to target is paramount!

Great tag to have in your possession the Manti is now what the Wasatch used to be. Elk everywhere with tons of potential to harvest a great bull.

I think the north part of the unit will give you a better chance at a nice bull. The Manti has been hunted pretty hard. I have 15 trail cams out this year and I am pretty disappointed in how many good mature bulls I am seeing. The Manti is nothing compared to what it was ten years ago.

It sounds like you're going to be in his honey hole ;)

All jokes aside, from what I've seen, the central and southern portions of the unit have a higher population density and therefore should have more mature bulls than the north side of the unit. But I have seen some great bulls all over the unit. Just find an area you want to hunt and find the bull for you!

PM me if you'd like and I can share what I know about the northern portion as this is where I hunt deer

I was down there with my brother over 4th of July weekend and we found 3 bulls hanging out together across a ridge pretty far away but couldn't tell exactly how big they were as we didn't have a spotting scope with us but could tell that at least 2 of the 3 were pretty good size 6 points from our binos. Later that night we saw two monsters in a field right by the road we were driving on, probably some of the biggest bulls I've personally seen in the wild. Made us really sad that we didn't draw the archery tags this year! There are quite a lot of elk down there so it should be a fun hunt, good luck!

LAST EDITED ON Aug-01-17 AT 10:25AM (MST)[p]I really like the country south of white mtn, and north of Scumapah sp? Resevouir. There's a big chunk of roadless in there.

I have drawn the Manti muzzy tag this year, and have been on the northern end of the unit a half dozen times, and have not been able to turn up a decent bull. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated.
