My wife has a Limited Entry Wasatch Early Rifle tag. The hunt starts in a few weeks. We have been out a lot scouting, but we're not seeing too many elk. Any archery hunters willing to share some places they have seen elk. Would be much appreciated.

Mostly around Currant Creek and Strawberry valley. We saw a lot in June, but with the heat. The elk we were seeing have moved.

Is this your wife's first elk hunt? You know, there are not as many elk in the strawberry area that there use to be. Unfortunately, there have been too many cow permits given out for too many years and way too many big bull tags too. Having said that you shouldn't have much trouble finding some low 300 class bulls, once they start rutting. i don't know what your expectations are, but it will be a fun hunt regardless. The Wasatch is a very big unit so you have a lot of options. Try Strawberry Ridge road area, lots of country there and Clyde Creek area also. These areas are on the west side of Strawberry. If you know the Current Creek area well, I'm sure you can find some bulls, once they start looking for cows. GOOD LUCK...

LAST EDITED ON Sep-03-17 AT 05:44PM (MST)[p]Yes this is her first elk hunt. Yeah I agree on the Wasatch, but she wanted to hunt close to home. We live in Cedar Hills close to American Fork Canyon. Thanks for the info. I'm familiar with those area's.

Just got back from the Wasatch after spending a couple days up there. Seen a lot of nice bulls and pushing cows. Bulls are heating up and should definitely be a good one this year...

depending on yours and your wife's physical ability, it may behoove you to stay even closer to home as well. I saw some really nice bulls this weekend on the Wasatch, also have heard rumor of a 385+ bull running around, heard a couple of the guide outfits have/had been chasing him, but lost him.

Yeah I know the where abouts of the 380 bull. I personally haven't seen him, but I'll bet he has moved into Redfords property.

I just got back from the Wasatch as well.
But I seen the opposite every animal on the hill was bedded down due to the heat.
Not much for rut activity just being honest with what I saw.

He has possibly moved into Redford property but he most likely will be back.

It was quite the site seeing all those people trying to film that 380 bull. I hope someone deserving smacks him good luck on your hunt

I was actually not talking about that bull. That bull will be killed if I had to take a guess. Those bulls are usually pretty easy to get off the Redford property. But there are some good bulls around that area other than the redford bull.

I will send you a PM with my info if you would like to get in touch, I am currently trying to help another MMer on the Muzzy hunt, but I would be willing to give a helping hand to you as well.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-05-17 AT 02:38PM (MST)[p]380 is a huge stretch. He is a great bull, especially for the Wasatch, but his fronts are extremely weak (even including his devil tines)and his width is even weaker. Of course his back end is sweet! As of yesterday he had cozied into private... We have pics since early July up until September 3rd.

If he doesn't stay on Private we suspect he will move some distance as the rut heats up. He had moved 4 miles from the night of Sept. 2nd to the night of the 3rd. He is moving A LOT...

Anyone have Redford's Cell number? :)

Have you tried asking Redford for permission?
