The 2017 UT archery season has been incredible, after taking a nice velvet muley I was able to arrow this nice Bull a week later. On my second backpack elk trip in deep the stars aligned. We had spotted this bull earlier and watched him thrash the scrub oak and buck and kick down the canyon. I've never seen a bull elk jump, and whirl around like my crazy yellow lab, he was quickly named the RODEO bull. We eventually caught up with him, and I was able to get a 45yd shot. After the shot he ran across the ravine right to my buddy within 15 yds. He could see the bull had been shot and decided to get another arrow in him. He drew his bow and the bull spooked out to 60 yds where he took a shot and grazed his belly basically skinning a 10" section of his undercarriage. My shot was a bit high and with the steep angle only got one lung. We gave the bull plenty of time and proceeded to track him for about a mile where we caught up with him. I put another arrow into him at 30yds. Unfortunately the bull began rolling down the canyon, check out the clip, words cant describe the tumble he took. We packed meat for a whole day staging it to an area where we could get the horses. I hiked out in the dark and brought the heavy haulers in to finish the job the next morning. Big thanks to my Bro-in-law Spencer for the horses. What a year in Utah! General season over the counter tag on public land! https://youtu.be/Iw0kwWLYsOY

That sure don't look like a easy place to do any cutting.
Tough packout's will Bring those times back to ya every season.

Great bull! Yup, looks like the sort of place an elk would be sure to die, to make the field processing that much more fun. :)
