Pics of 2017 Wasatch Bulls

I would love to see pics of bulls harvested on the Wasatch Unit this year.

I'd dare say there are many disappointed hunters that burned many points that aren't so happy with the lack of elk and quality they didn't see. I'd think long and hard about turning my tag in if I had one for the next two hunts that are still left.

I hope they can build it back up to what it was just a few short years ago.

Hunted it personally in 2013 and with my boy in 2014. Had no problem finding elk then but it doesn't take long with the current tag numbers to change things dramatically. I too am curious to see what this thread turns up.

I have the mid season tag and no intentions of turning it in. I don't have any monster elk on my radar, but I've been into plenty of elk every time I've been out. Hopefully that hold true for another week!

I have spent the most part of the last two months in the heart of the unit.
I have seen elk but the cow slaughter from years ago has definitely caught up to the unit.
Yes there are still elk and yes some people might come across some good herds.
But overall the unit got smacked hard from killing all the cows they did . I can not count how many elk hunters I came across who were absolutely down in the dumps and very dissapointed in what they were seeing as far as quality and quantity.

A conversation I had with the local dwr patrol officer who is also a neighbor backed up everything I have been seeing as well quality and quantity both are down

Good luck to you. I had the muzzy tag and was literally driving to turn my tag in when I thought- It's gonna get a lot worse before it gets better. So I decided it was now or never. I was very fortunate but thought I'm gonna have to hunt my tail off to find a decent bull. I was done at 9 am. Whewww I was lucky.

It's been ruined for sure. One post of a bull in 24 hrs. Maybe the members of MM are waiting to login when they get to work Monday morning and then the pics will come in. We'll see.

Thanks! Not sure what's going to happen hunting with all the spike hunters at the same time, but hopefully it's not complete chaos and can get it done.

My aunt had the ML tag in 2015 and we were able to get into a few herds and she had a few chances at some 300 inch bulls. It was a lot of fun.

This year my dad drew the tag with 0 points and a week before the hunt I was notified that someone surrendered and I was next in line, I had 2 points going in. I accepted knowing that it would be tough to fill 2 tags.

We hunted a total of 9 1/2 days and was only able to get close to 1 bachelor group of small bulls on the opener (spike, four point and another small bull we didn't get a good look at) that never made a noise and the 6 bulls hanging out with the bull I shot (small raghorn) we saw 4 bulls over 300 but we could never get close to and that weren't talking much.

We spent time in 4 different areas covering miles and miles and saw very few elk. Even fewer cows. The cows we did see were on private property and had a few large bulls pushing them around. We had one day where we heard a lot of bugling but it didn't last long. It was very very discouraging but with 2 points between the two of us I guess I can't complain too much.

Also I hope they don't sell off any more land, it's super frustrating seeing so much pristine elk country and not be able to hunt it. That's a whole other worm...

Saw your elk in person. Pictures don't do it justice. Amazing bull and such a cool story about his eye. Congrats

Sounds like we are starting to see the results from our wonderful DWR management practices. Wasatch elk will be on a slippery slope for many years to come. There will always be a few giants, but very few in comparison to what it once was, and you can owe it all to management, pathetic. What biologist thinks its ok to "uncontrollably" kill off an entire herd of breeding stock and believes the herd can sustain it. Think about it, the wasatch has lost hundreds if not thousands of breeding cows which in turn adds up to very few new bulls. There should be consequences for those involved in the slaughtering of the wasatch cows. And the worst part about it is it isn't there first time royally f'n things up, remember Fishlake?

Couldn't agree more Fullthrottle!!!!!!!!!!! Makes no damn sense that they indiscriminately allowed 2500+ cows to be killed yearly.. Cattlemans groups have any payouts for the slaughter? I have no damn idea,, but, I DO KNOW the elk for the most part are gone!!!!!!!!!

LAST EDITED ON Oct-13-17 AT 12:22PM (MST)[p]Cmon. There has to be some more bulls killed on the Wasatch than 3 muzzy bulls.

I had a friend tell me I should have passed on my bull. He said there were bigger ones showing up. I'm having a hard time believing it. I saw 5 5 pts in trucks day of the 2nd Rifle hunt. I'd say they've definitely wiped out the Wasatch.

I'd agree that many hunters went away disappointed. The next few years are not looking good for the Wasatch elk herd! I still managed to dig up a few respectable bulls. And we hunted a half dozen other bigger bulls that we couldn't seal the deal on.
The Wasatch will always crank out a few giants but the days of plenty are gone for the time being.
