LAST EDITED ON Oct-01-17 AT 02:36PM (MST)[p]I have max elk points and think I will have enough time to hunt for several weeks next year. Where would you put in to have the best chance at a 400" bull in Utah? I am a resident.

Gone are the days of 400" bulls in Utah. 350" bulls are the new 400. Most bulls killed now a days are in the low 300" ball park. Be prepared to go home empty if it's 400" only. Also, you may want to get ahold of the best guides and outfitters in the state at your best chance at the biggest bulls.

If I had max points and wanted to stretch towards the 400" mark I would try to draw a premium tag and then you have more options and time to look over more bulls.

https://www.toprut.com/hunt/utah-elk/ is a great reference to see point trends.

There are still 400" bulls in Utah, but you are going to have to pass a lot of bulls up to find one.

The Few 400" Bulls left here in TARDville will be surrounded by Big Money Hunters Hiring Guides!

Basically it's Once in a Lifetime!

You Might as Well join the Crowd!

Best of Luck no matter what you do!

Back Me Off to 1,700 Yards,650 is a Little Close & I'm Not Comfortable with it!

A GUT SHOT at 1,700 Yards will Still Make Some Good BRAGGIN Rights so I Can Say I At Least Hit Him!

I know a guy who had 23 points and drew San-Juan this year.He paid a guide big money for a 400 class bull and eat tag soup.So like most of the guys are telling you good luck on that 400 bull.

Hey arns?

Was it 400" or Bust?

He wouldn't Settle for a 380" PISSCUTTER Later in the Season?

You know him Bess. I haven't talked to him since he left to go down but when he left that's what he said he was going to hold out for.He can shoot a 350 bull on his place every year.

I'm not sure there was ever a day where the vast majority of hunters ever had a real chance at a 400+ inch bull in Utah. Yes, they are still killed every year. Yes, you might be able to get one. Yes, there are multiple units where these happen. But no, it was never a common occurrence, even in the "good old days." (Which really are right now for elk in Utah on many units)

Boulder has been putting out some giants the last few years, including multiple 400+ inch bulls. They seem to come on the archery hunt more than others, due to the guides that are killing them with clients early in the season. San Juan probably has the highest concentration of "big" bulls, but not guaranteed to produce a 400+ inch bull. But might be the best chance for a giant for the average hunter. You might have to "settle" for a 375 inch bull, though. Monroe has kicked out a 400+ bull each of the last few years, but the overall numbers are down from what I understand. Dutton still has a big boy or two running around, including the giant killed a couple years ago on the statewide tag. Beaver, Pahvant...those have potential too.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-02-17 AT 01:53PM (MST)[p]I don't know how to approach this post. I have killed big bears, bucks and bulls. Maybe things have changed for me since having kids. I killed my largest bull 383 and some change and that was great. But my most prized trophy is a 354" bull I killed. My boy was with me. The experience has become more of a trophy for me then the animal.

If I were you, and you are talking about Utah, I would go San Juan, Beaver, Boulder, Pahvahnt ( if inches are the main goal)

If experience is just as important. I would se above as well as add in manti, Wasatch and even Nebo and books premium units

Edit: I forgot to add fish lake into the last paragraph
