Just curious what the hunting is like on the Gila. Ive done research here on MM and Gohunt and it looks like all the Gila units hold elk and any of the units are going to be a good hunt. Im not going to be putting in this year do to a new addition to the family on his way. Just doing research. But is there one unit over the other that is better? I will be doing archery more than likely and just wanting to kill a bull honestly doesn't matter size to me. Thanks guys

The Gila units are all really good - and tough draws. Especially if you aren't in the outfitter pool. If you look at the draw odds you'll see which most people think are best - 15, 16, 17 in that order ? . If you aren't concerned about a huge bull take a look at the units in the north central part of the state. Good Elk numbers in many of them and a much easier draw. The realistic top end bull in those units (320 ish) is smaller than what you might find on the Gila but still a darn good hunt.

I responded to you in the NM forum as well. Chip is exactly right here. I stated the same thing. Odds much better in northern units if size doesn't matter. Good luck

I've researched and applied for the Gila several times without drawing. I've hunted the northern part of the state several times successfully. Neither of those things make me an expert by any means but I'll share what I know either here or in a PM if you prefer.
