My daughter drew out a elk hunt for her first time. We never hunted elk before this will be our first year so I was hoping for some advice and directions where to go on this elk hunt in 16c. Any kind of info will help I'm pretty sure no one would like to give there hunting spots up. I've been mule deer hunting in unit 27 for the last 6 years and I'm willing to trade some good hunting spots for any help. Thank you and plz reply for help!

Sent you a PM. I've hunted the unit the last few years and my brother guided for 8 years. I'll be more than happy to share all the hot spots I know of. Hope you and your daughter have an amazing hunt!

Hi, new to the forum. But my 11 year old drew the 16C youth rifle tag this year too. We have hunted cows in the Gila mountains over the past few years, but never in C and never for Bulls. Any advice for us?

LAST EDITED ON May-14-18 AT 09:13AM (MST)[p]Here is a picture of one of the cows we got, this is the one my 10 year old got last year in 16D. Opening morning, 207 yards, great shot. We spent lots of time at the range before the hunt to build his confidence and he did a great job.

The same son drew the youth ES elk in 16c for this year. We have camped all over that unit and routinely see Elk everywhere. Do you guys think hunting in the Aldo Leopold or Gila Wilderness areas of the unit are better than other areas? We don't have horses, but are planning on setting up a base camp and then hiking and setting up a mobile spike camp as well. What are your thoughts on the different parts of the unit?

45 miles on our boots in 4 days. Early mornings, long days, lots of work, but it paid off for my 11 year old son. Couldn?t be more proud. 279 yard shot with a 7mm-08 did the trick.
