I'm headed to unit 28 this year and cant seem to find many posts about it. I know they sell a butt load of tags for this area but how is the hunting pressure beyond a mile or so from the roads and trails

Are most road hunters or do most really get after it in that area ? I have a wolf tag in my pocket also y don't they reduce the amount of tags if the predation is that bad ?

Quite a few road hunters , lots of open trails for atvs and dirt bikes . The department wants your money, that's why they don't severely cut the tags .

I'll tell you what, it's a no win for F&G. All the office jockeys seem to be so aware of deer numbers, elk numbers, migration times, predation, and every other issue in the world. Here's an idea....let them do their jobs, if any issues arise with below objective units, cut all non resident tags. I'd gladly pay higher tag fees so offset the cost revenue. As an Idaho native I'm really tired of the advice and "ideas" from non resident hunters.
And to answer your question, elk numbers are decent in 28, get off the road, put in your miles, glass, and you'll find elk. All easier said than done in that country. Certainly elk to be had. Good luck.

Gotta love someone who tells you not to be an "office jockey" who then proceeds to be a "office jockey". Par for the course

Funny stuff right there, don't care who ya are...

28 Deer and Elk.
There are still plenty of deer and elk in unit 28. If you get off the roads and I mean 4 wheeler roads you can find them. Funny 90% of the hunters and thus tags are from Idaho. Only 10% go to the NR so cutting them wouldn't amount to squat in #s. Yes I am a res and DO live within 25 miles of the unit so I do hunt know the trends. This is a general unit for both deer and elk so there is no limit on res. tags. PM me and I can give some area that have worked for me in the past.
