Active fires

So what does everyone do when your spots A&B are in or very near to a active fire?
Do you hope its out when you get there in mid October. How long after a fire does it take till roads and trails reopen after the fire is out? what are the odds the

I've got the same problem right now too. The fire is getting huge and crossed over the ridge into the good elk country. I'm praying for rain to put an end to all these fires. Doesn't look like any is coming anytime soon. When the roads open back up I think depends on what the area around them is like. If it is surrounded by thick timber it might take a little bit longer so they can make sure it is safe. Shouldn't be any more than a week or two after the fire is out that they open back up.

How large of a fire is in your area? is it possible for any new growth to start this year?

It just started this week. It's on the Manti unit in Utah. it has grown to 17,000 acres in a few days. Without rain, they might not be able to get it out much before my hunt starts in september. I doubt much if anything will grow back this season at this point. Oh well, that's how it goes! The elk don't get burned so I'll just have to find where they went off to and see what it looks like when it gets put out. Maybe glassing will be even easier now! :)

Roads and areas can stay closed for quite a while after fires under certain circumstances. Unless the forest service is talking, your guess is as good as anyone's.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-09-18 AT 01:13PM (MST)[p]When the fires are done the flash flood begins I think there will be a lot of roads closed and washed out witch sucks for a lot of are fellow hunters unfortunately the roads will probably not get any attention till spring if they wash out

We watched quite a few elk running in a burned area the same year it burned. It was a month or so after but they stood out like beacons in the night in all that black. The down side is there were also signs in the bottom restricting people from entering the burn due to the possibility of burnt trees falling and injuring someone. I'm not sure who enforces that restriction or what. Anyway, best of luck in your search.

Hope California Burns down. Too bad its the north half. Its the south that needs to go with the illegals and Liberals. Hope Utah is ok.................BULL!

LAST EDITED ON Aug-14-18 AT 09:37AM (MST)[p]I can tell you after spending the last two weeks on the wasatch area that burnt down due to the dollar ridge fire. the place looks like the moon. no cover whatsoever for the animals and they are gone. I covered many miles while working up there and didn't see a single big game track or any animals where the fire has been.no rain and as hot as the fire burnt its gonna be a few years.

and the small areas that are near the burnt areas that didnt burn already have wheelers and guys damn near fist fighting over who's trail camera belongs where.
the funny thing about that is I personally watched animals leave those areas too.

I have the same problem in my area for cow elk in Nevada. The wilderness area I was going to hunt is currently on fire. I'm still gonna go, just gonna find some new country to hunt. Either way I'll see some new country and get away. Hopefully I'll find some elk in the meantime. For what it's worth I've seen elk in burned areas pretty quick after it goes out. I think it depends on the surrounding timber and water for how long it takes them to go back in to the burnt area.
