i drew a unit 40-1 elk tag i have never hunted this unit for elk is there any one familiar with the elk in this unit that i could bounce some ideas off as a starting point thanks

We have had elk come into water holes when we were antelope hunting in that area. This was around mid September. A lot of private in that area for sure. When is the season?

Sept 25, find the cows. They won't be where the bulls summered.

That country doesn't look too rough, but it's full of a lot of nooks and crannies filled with cedars and thick brush.

Find the cows. Antelope guys will be out, use them as your scouters and stop all you can find prior to the opener.
