The weather really shut things down for the final week of the archery hunt.

We got real close to big bulls the the final weekend and then the weather got hot and the wind blew relentlessly for the final five days.

I've never seen a more relentless wind!

The elk only bugled in the morning and it was brief. They were moving quickly at first light and were unresponsive to calling.
Many bulls left their cows and grouped back up with other bulls.

We came home empty!

The elk didn't beat us, the weather did!

I doubt we will be the only open tag on this unit this year.

We saw some awesome bulls and the rifle hunt will be very productive.

But the bulls shouldn't be grouped up this time of year either.

Wrong year for the archery tag. But, we made lots of memories and we will hang our hat on that.

No regrets. Hunting is fun! Killing ends the hunt!

Man it's brutal when Mother Nature interferes... sounds like you?v got the right attitude about it... Thers rifle hunters out there today saying the same thing as you, very quiet with little to no rut activity...

Congrats on a successful experience...

Been there, done that! It's a tough pill to swallow but having a positive attitude goes a long ways! I have a couple neighbors who had LE elk tags as well and they all ate tag soup.
I'll be down there hunting deer on the rifle hunt. If you seen any decent ones let me know!

Years ago I hunted with a good friend that had an archery LE tag. He passed on several nice bulls, a couple opening weekend, looking for a big one. We also came home empty handed but had the opportunity to hunt the entire hunt and it was the funnest time I've had while in the field. He doesn't regret passing on the "nice" bulls, he also just embraces the experience. I'm hoping if I ever draw I can keep the same attitude. It should be about the hunt, not the trophy.

Great post walleye!
Your experience is certainly much more common than social media/forums lead us to believe!
Ultimately all hunts are about an adventure. So when the animals, or mother nature win the battle, it's still an worthy adventure. And it's worth remembering with a smile!
Good on you guys for giving your all.

Had a similar time on Wasatch. Buddy with tag had a couple chances on good bulls, but needed 10 more yards to pull it off. Winds were crazy the whole last week which everyone hoped would be the best of the hunt. Calling was very limited with the crazy winds.
