Big Manti Bull for my wife!

LAST EDITED ON Sep-18-18 AT 07:38PM (MST)[p]My wife drew a Manti early rifle tag this year with only 10 points. We were shocked to get the results and had been planning for months. Opening day finally came and as luck would have it we found a canyon with 12 bulls and three large groups of cows. The rut action was awesome bugling nearly all day. Saturday night, we snuck down a ridge and got just above the bull we wanted and had him raking a tree 80 yards away. The wind switched before we could get a clear shot and his cows busted. We thought the hunt was over for the day when suddenly the bull we were after charged up the hill toward us chasing another bull away from his cows. The two bulls fought for several minutes right in front of us. I cow called and the target bull screamed back. Then the target bull ran off the other bull and came at us at a trot. My wife shot the bull perfect at 50 yards or so. Definitely the most exciting hunt of our lives. AND NO I DON'T CARE WHAT HE SCORES! I got kind of sick of everyone who saw the bull asking what he scores and a few lamenting how the DWR has messed up all the units. My wife and I were very satisfied with her hunt of a lifetime. Utah elk hunting is still some of the best anywhere. Sorry about the last bit, but people just need to enjoy a hunt and get off the score already. Thanks for letting us share.

Nicely done! Congrats on a awesome experience. The memories shared far outweigh the score of the bull.

Congrats to your wife on a great bull! The story you tell of how it all came together is what dreams are made of. That must have been quite a rush. And don't let the kuiu crowd spoil her accomplishment, most are just trying to diminish their own deficiencies anyway.

Heck ya, that is a great bull. I tried for a tag in the same unit with no luck. Maybe next year.
Post some more pictures if you have some.

Yes, great bull! Congrats to your wife. Score is only important if it is important to you! Much more important is that the bull and hunting him brings you satisfaction and great memories.

I could care less about scores myself. The way your hunt played out for your wife and you, and how you related it would trump any story about how someone glassed up a huge bull, closed the gap, and shot him. For me, it's all about the personal side of the hunt, or what transpired along the way. The pics are icing on the cake for the sealed deal! Congratulations for memories of a lifetime of hunts, and thanks for sharing your experiences!

Dude- Right on brother..!! You got your wife in the hills, with bulls bugling all around, and a stud comes in to your calls and she shoots it dead..??!!

That sounds like the most amazing hunt you will ever experience. I'm with you... Screw score.

Great story. Awesome attitude. Stories like this is why I stick around this place. More then score to me is that your wife didn't dial up a 1000+ yard shot. All I can say is great works guys.

Memories are better then scores in my book.
She made a awesome shot for being under pressure with a bugling bull in her face.
Very cool bull.

Ridge, You're right, it's better to enjoy the memories of the hunt and care less about the score. Really that's what the Manti unit is managed for. Sure a few people get lucky with a big bull, but the average bull on the Manti isn't far from 300-320". If anyone wants a bigger bull they should apply to units that manage for older aged bulls. Congrats on your success!

Very nice. Congrats to your wife. So cool. Thanks for sharing.
