Just wondering how the archery and muzzle loader hunters did for elk in unit 76. I'm getting ready to head over for the 1st rifle season in a couple weeks and would like to know how the hunting had been.
Thanks

the archery hunting was fantastic. Bulls were bugling and coming to calls last week. My son shot a very nice 6x6, 322" bull. His first archery elk. Friend shot a 5x5. I passed on several smaller bulls. Drew on 3 but just could not get a clear shot. Saw several BIG bulls, one 370 range nontypical 7x7. Weather was warm, 30 to 70 degrees. Hunted high, mostly between 11,00 to 12,400 ft. Will post some pics when I have time.

So where are the pictures?

Me and my brother both got bulls, nice 6x6s. Nothing huge. It was a good experience. Didn't see many elk. Only heard 3 bugles the night before the hunt. We packed in 6.5 miles on horses and found out the was a 4 wheeler trail up the canyon only another mile. That sucked. I'm sure there are better areas than where we were at.

Sorry to jump in on your thread but I'm looking for info on unit 76 elk hunt. I'm from UT and have 24 pts so I am looking at the ER hunt. I'm torn between 61 ML and 76 ER but would prefer the rifle hunt. I bowhunt deer and elk in UT but after waiting this long I'm looking for a 320+ bull with a good chance of success. Since I'm going solo, I'm looking at a DIY with help on pack-out or a guided hunt. I've talked to Rio Grande and Frazier outfitters and their prices are the same and both come highly recommended. Any info you could provide on a DIY vs guided hunt, places to hunt and possible guides would be appreciated. And any experiences you could share in that unit. Thanks
