Trophy spike hunters

Who's headed up on the mountain ? I would rather shoot a spike every year. Instead of a four hundred bull every ten years. So I am going up to feed my family. Who's going to be on my mountain in case I need a pack out. If you are close to me. I can usually get me on channel 2. If everyone is making to much noise. I may have to change to a private channel.

I'll be up on the skyline pounding the mud. Probably never get out of the truck with the rest of the hunters and if I do I'll join them on Johnson's!

They sure as hell ain't gonna make it to 400 if they are killed as spikes. What is the purpose of a spike hunt? Why not just shoot a damn cow?

Just curious as to why shooting a cow that can produce several calves is better than shooting a spike?

Very Ignorant on your part.
Hunting is first and foremost about getting meat. A spike is the cream of the crop in the meat department. If we can issue 15,000 over the counter spike elk tags vs 1000 extra any bull tags I will always push for more people getting tags. If we continue to degrade it to a bone fest as it has been we are going to lose it. There is still plenty of opportunity to hunt mature bulls here in Utah as well as in surrounding states. You just have to man up and do it.

Now why would you go and use logic? Its scientific that EVERY make calf will become a 400" bull. You can't deny science. I mean haven't you noticed EVERY bull on the LE units is 400"? Every one of them. The pop out of momma with 250" on them at birth.

Opening morning of the rifle spike elk hunt on a popular unit in central Utah
Elk count by me all from the road not hunting.
6 spikes
2 two points
3 330 caliber bulls
8 rag horns
More than 30 head of cows
I saw one spike get killed.
My son out hiking and hunting spikes.
His count
3 spikes
Two bulls legal to shoot
One five by spike could not get a shot at it and one other spike by a clump of junk he saw after he shot his spike.
Two bigger bills not sure how big.
He killed a spike.
