Fillmore Pahvant Elk

Hello,
I posted a few months back about the Fillmore unit. I have a late season bull tag there. I have scouted the area quite a few times mostly in the northern part of the unit as recently as yesterday. I saw lots of cows mixed with spikes and rag horns hanging out with them. Most were up high. I saw one young six point. We glassed all day. I have not been able to spot any large bulls. As you can expect, anything that I saw in previous weeks is not longer there.

I am a new elk hunter. I did NOT expect to get this tag so if I am not doing what I should be doing don't jump me in this forum. I am doing the best I can with the time and skill that I have. I would appreciate some solid advice on this unit and late season tips.

I would be happy to call or chat outside of the forum.

Thanks again. Mike

You're gonna Have to Find them/Do lots of Glassing!

The Bigger Bulls might be Grouped back up some and Licking their Wounds!

They can Be Damn Hard to Locate depending on what the Terrain is like!

Alot of times they'll have a Buddy or a Few Buddies with them!

You Ain't gonna Find the Big Bulls with the Small Bulls/Cows this time of year!

Best of Luck!

I know so many people in so many places
They make allot of money but they got sad faces

It Ain't Easy being Me!:D:D:D

Thank you for the pointers. We did lots of glassing. It's going to take us some more time this week prior to the hunt.

Thanks again. Have a good one. MM

I don't have any unit specific advice for you but maybe some help with finding mature bulls on the late hunt.

Look for pockets that are away from roads and have a north face. They will likely be in the oak brush elevations and slightly above. This time of the year they may be hitting some alfalfa fields at night then moving up into the foothills to bed for the day.

Good luck to you. Post a picture with a story when you finish your hunt.

Where did you look if you were looking north?

We bow hunted and saw some really good bulls. My buddy was in on the rifle deer and saw lots of elk. I may be able to get you some helpful info.

PM if you like.
