My wife and I were fortunate enough to get this nice bull on the afternoon of her last day to hunt. She drew the tag on a year where she would not be able to take vacation during the hunt. We had a total of 5 days to hunt. The first 2 weekends were very tough due to the overwhelming number of deer hunters in the area. We still managed to find quite a few bulls, and 1 very good bull. We got into position to shoot just in time to watch him walk over the ridge into the timber and disappear, right at dark. We continued to hunt and pass up several young bulls with a glimmer of hope one of the big guys would present a shot. The morning of her last day to hunt we planned long steep hike into a canyon the elk stage up in before heading to the winter grounds. We left the trailhead about an hour before shooting light to get to a good glassing spot. It was a very disappointing morning with no bulls spotted. It was snowing off and on and very windy so we decided to head back to the truck and regroup. We talked it over on the way out and thought we would gamble and head back up to 10,000ft and glass midday. The elk gods were on our side when this bulls buddy got out of his bed and fed out into a small clearing. We picked the rest of the area apart and found 3 more bulls, all 4 of them were 6 points. We had about 2 miles to cover and 6 hours to get into to position. It took about an hour and a half to get to the rock outcropping that was across from them, that I thought would put us at around 300yds. When we to our spot the bulls were gone. We could, however, see where they were bedded and had perfect wind, so we took off to find their tracks. about half way there we glassed up their tracks and guessed they had fed into a small draw between the boulder patches. Our guess was right and a few minutes later found us 50 yards above the bulls with them having no idea we were even on the mountain. My wife made a perfect shoulder shot taking out both lungs, the bull ran straight uphill about 75yds and crashed. It was an amazing chain of events, we both just stood there in the perfect silence of the November snowstorm and took it all in. Truly blessed to be able to do what we do! My wifes first bull, 2 hours before her season would end. Im a lucky guy...

Great bull ! But I want to see more of that rifle . It looks special. Congrats to you and the wife.

The rifle is special to her! its a Bighorn action with a Shilen barrel in a manners stock, chambered in 6.5x284 topped off with a Huskemaw 5-20. And it shoots REALLY good!

Congrats to the both of you! It's a good thing she bought you along to haul out those antlers! Kimber Hunter? Caliber?

Great bull. Congrats to your wife and yourself. It takes patience to hold out for a big bull when your limited on time. Enjoy your trophy and the elk meat.

Great times right there! Very cool. Sweet bull too.
