WITH 14 POINTS YOU ARE IN A BIND FOR THE TOP NOTCH UNITS, I KNOW NR WITH 22 POINTS THAT CANT DRAW THE TROPHY UNITS. YOU MIGHT WANT TO HANG ON A FEW MORE YEARS........BUT THEN AGAIN POINT CREEP WILL HAUNT YOUR DRAW ODDS AS WELL.

ITS A TUFF ONE..............YD.

look for a unit that you and a buddy can draw with 7 points and take your buddy hunting.

We don't point share in Colorado.

Gator unless his buddy had 7 points that wouldn't work. They do not point share in colorado, if you put in as a group you go with the person who has the lowest point. So if he has 14 and his buddy has 0 they go with zero points.

Archery or rifle?

Guided or unguided?

This will make a difference on what you can draw and what ground you can access.

I guess you understand with 14 PP you are in Preference Point Hell. These top units that take more than 20 points you will never catch up to.

You will have maybe three or four units in the 10 to 14 point range.

Hybrid doesn't help for non res really since non res have the most points and draw out their 20% before they do the hybrid draw.

Well H#ll I was looking to hop on with some one that had more point then me. LOL

I am 61. I was an avid bow hunter as a young man. I am a rifle hunter now. I normally do it myself on normal draw hunts. Preference points I will use a guide. I am drawing preference points in 3 different states. I am in no hurry as long as my health stays good. The mountains do get tougher every year but I still hit the gym 3 to 4 days a week so I can hunt. I can hold out for 6 more years and get 20 points. The reason I posted question is just getting prepared for the future. Looking at areas and possible guides in those areas. Thanks for the info.

Unit 40, third rifle with Mike Lawson of Trophy Class Outfitters. Probably be a 300 class bull on this hunt but they will kill some 320 to 350 bulls in the earlier seasons so there might be one of those still around.

You are right on the edge of being able to draw this. Only 2 of 6 with 13 point drew this last year which is what you had.

Unit 49, muzzleloader or first rifle, National Forest, so you can hunt on your own if you want. Probably less than a 300 bull. There has been a lot of info posted on this unit if you do a search.

Unit 76, second rifle, a lot of public land again, or Sammy Frazier's name comes up a lot as a good outfitter.

Unit 20 late hunts with an outfitter on private land. But there is risk on these hunts because they are expecting the elk to move off Rocky Mountain National Park to the private. If they don't come it's a total bust.

With point creep waiting usually doesn't help. The unit that takes 20 points this year will take 26 in 6 years.

There are probably a few isolated units where you are a half point or one point behind you might benefit by waiting a couple of years.

Good luck with your search.
