Season is on down here in Arizona, I want to get out the day after Thanksgiving to chase some quail. Havent done it since high school (about 15 years). wondering if anyone has any advise on getting back into it.

I'm no expert but I've thrown enough lead at those little missles to keep Remington in business....Practice shooting before you go and carry lots of shells...Are you planning on huntin with a dog? If not get up high and use a call to locate them....they are pretty vocal birds and will respond to a call. Hunt the thickets along the river and creek drainages and look for the sentry bird to be posted on a high rock, fence post or tree branch....

When he jumps down they'll start for the thickets. After you bust a covey watch for singles and doubles that locked in the cover.....and watch where the covey goes as you can be in for lots of action bustin them again and again...singles, doubles, triples.....try callin again they'll try to regroup and will get vocal after things settle.

Good Luck....keep me posted on you trip...

Great advice.

I will add this:

Use the "improved cylinder" or "modified" choke. They bust close and you need to shoot fast. Using these chokes ups your chances of bagging multiple birds with one shot if they fly together.

I like using lead shot in 7 1/2 if it's legal in your area.

I hunt mountain quail. They play hell on a pointer, and sometimes, when you walk down a straight up and down cliff lookinf for a bird, you wonder if its all worth it,

but at the end of the day, you realize it was,

Buy a side by side, improved + modified it helps,
