I went out today on Humboldt Bay (CA). I got the only two birds I saw all morning.

Sunrise on Humboldt Bay.

At high tide lots of eelgrass comes ashore. My scull boat. I built it in 1971.

A two bird limit. The one on the left is a juvenile.

Eelgrass,
I personally like all of the pictures, even
the dead bird ones. Would you do an ol' Texas
boy a favor and tell me what a Brant is.
I'm not real smart, but i'll ask questions.

A Pacific Brant is a strictly salt water member of the goose family. They nest in the Aleutian Islands and winter off the coast of Southern CA and Baja Mexico. Their diet consists mainly of eelgrass (hence my screen name, lol). On their migration they stop over in shallow bays along the coast where eelgrass grows.

Brant are the very best eating of all the waterfowl. Bar none! That's why I still enjoy hunting them.

Incidentally, the East coast have Brant also, but a different species, called the Atlantic Brant.

Thanks for the nice comments!

Here's a picture I took recently of some live birds (for you Jenn, LOL). I'm not a very good photographer though......

So they eat eelgrass, eh? What do you do, lay nekked on the beach and wait until you feel a tug on you "stalk"?
