Have any of you had your wife drag you to CANCUN?If so,any fishing info to pass on.Who to hire? What to fish for?...

I don't know about Cancun in particular as I've only stayed in Cancun once. The last couple of years, the trips we've taken to Mexico have been south of Cancun, more in the Playa del Carmen area. We were down there in February and we fished with Captain Rick's. Supposedly they have been chartered by ESPN and other big names in fishing. I wasn't very impressed. We fished 1/2 day for around $100 each. There was 4 of us on the boat and only 2 people got to reel a fish in, so basically 2 people paid $100 each to ride around in the boat. We talked to other people when we got back and they had about the same experience. Most people said they were really glad they didn't spring for the full day. If you're staying at a resort, they should have some info there, but with my experience, it's not something I'm interested in doing again for awhile.
Not to sound discouraging, that was just my experience with fishing around that area.

>Depends on what time of year
>your there.....

i 2nd that. some of the guides websites will have fishing info calendars. i.e.- what fish will be available when and when is good-better-best.
i pulled this off a cancun fishing site....
Traditionally, February through August are excellent for sails, marlin, tuna and dolphin. The seas are mostly calm.

October through January sees the transition between rainy season and dry season here, and we catch a variety of species.

January through March can be windy, and boats usually run about 45 minutes to get to the good fishing out of the wind. Marlin, and large blackfin tuna, wahoo, mahi-mahi are plentiful then, as well as sailfish.

We thought this too, until we went out. The farthest out any boat went was about 3 miles from marina. It's just been my experience in Mexico they will just about tell you anything to get you to pay. I know people that have excellent experiences fishing down there and I know people who had less then desirable experiences, myself included. My feeling is that anything you do down there is a gamble.

I was down there three years ago this August and went out fishing. It was alot of fun and we caught a ton of fish. We spent about an hour going out and then dropped the lines. It was a blast. Thats the only place I have been deep sea fishing besides Alaska so I dont have a whole lot to compare it too. But I would definitely do it again.

I just got back from Playa Del Carmen last Thursday. My advice-sit by the pool, drink and dream about big bulls and bucks. I've gone at least once every winter the last 5 years and after my first fishing trip, I don't even think about the fishing. Wind blew all week last week anyways.

Remember, make the wife happy and remind her about Cancun in Oct & Nov.
