im in the market for a quality electric fillet knife. what would you guys that use/have them recommend? i was going to get a rapala, but have read some mixed reviews on it. thanks.

If you're going to be doing a lot of fish get a 110 Volt model. I see a lot of cordless models brought to the cleaning station and they just don't have the power or last long enough to do much. I use the American Angler Ultra. It gets used hard and lasts me a season. I like AA because they used to make 5 1/2" blades that give me more control for filleting panfish. They're no longer available but I have several sets I re-sharpen. The Rapala knife is good also and 6" blades are available. The Rapala blades will fit an AA, they just don't go in as far. For the last 2 weeks I have been doing about 150 crappie daily which takes about 3 hours and the AA has not overheated. I had an outdoor writer out last week who took a youtube video of the filleting. I don't know how to post a link but if you search crappie brownlee you can find it.

i use the mister twister (green and yellow). i been usung this brand for 20 years or more. i use to burn up a couple a year cleaning big redfish but dont fish them anymore

This summer, I've cleaned over 2,000 striped bass that have been caught in Lake Mead, so I do know a thing or two about electric fillet knives.

First of all, FORGET the Rapala, it is junk! I've got the 12 volt/110 combo like new in the case and if I could get $15 bucks for it, I'd sell it in a minute!

I've also got the Mr. Twiser, and the Wal-Mart special, American Angler (not made anymore), but the best one out there is the one put out by Storm.

I've cleaned a lot of fish with all of them, and as long as you don't let them get real hot, they will work great.

I rotate between the American Angler and the Storm now when I got more than 100 fish to do at a time. I've got 3 AA and about 5 new sets of blades for it. I like the ultra thin 7" model the best.

I rotate the knives so I don't burn them up anymore (traded Wal-Mart about 5 times before I figured it out you don't let them get hot!)

I think I'm getting this fillet stuff down.

I can do a striped bass 12 inches and under in 12 seconds. Over 12" but under 20" and they're done in 22 seconds!

God love those electric fillet knives!
