I've just moved to Cali and I am looking for places to fish. I work in the Rancho Cordova area and I want to try the american river and also another dam off of the hazel exit in folsom. Are these good places to try for some fish? what can I expect to catch and what type of lures should i use? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's been awhile now but i used to steelhead fish on the American river every year and did pretty good. I avoided the crowds by walking into remote spots accessed through dead ends in neighborhood housing tracts pretty close to Hyw 99. The river also hold shad, salmon, and some stripers that are almost too huge to believe, 40+ pounders!

Don't forget the delta!! I love it out there with hundreds of miles of bank fishing for catfish and stripers mostly but you never know what you're gonna catch. There's plenty of Largemouth bass there as well. Check out these guys for reports;

The Foothills are studded with lakes and reservoirs, huge Cats, salmon, Trout, Bass, and panfish. For being near a major city, Sac has a Ton of outdoor opportunities nearby. :) Good luck!!!

I moved from Nor-Cal a few years ago. I used to spend a lot of time in the Sac area hunting and fishing.

Answer a few of these questions and I'll be able to point you in the right direction a little better.

-Do you have a boat/float tube?
-car/truck?
-What kind of fish are you wanting to catch?
