LAST EDITED ON Nov-10-09 AT 08:20PM (MST)[p]After seeing pics of shummy's pointers, I thought it would be nice to see some other dogs and a little info on them.

This is my GSP Zeke, he's a year old. We chase Huns, Chukar, Pheasant, Quail and an occasional Blue Grouse.

Great idea! I love to see dog pics. If everything goes as we have planned, when my wife finishes up with school, I will be training dogs professionally. We have a family member with a large chunk of Montana property that they don't use, we are going to buy it and move the operation there.

I knew I shouldnt have opened this thread! I have been getting out of the game the last few years, and my last bird dog had a stroke about a month ago and I had to put him down. I dont know when I'll get a pup, been doing too much big game hunting to train one properly, but seeing these dog pix makes me want one again, I miss hunting chukar till febuary!

here is a chain gang of pointers, and a vizsla

It seems like I saw an add for a litter of Rebel Rouser pups the other day. That should entice a lover of red dogs...

Reddog,

Nothing like a new pup to get ya back in the saddle. Visla's are a beutiful dog. Pointers seem to be so intense, there points are very solid. great pics

LAST EDITED ON Nov-12-09 AT 08:39PM (MST)[p]Shummy, I seen those Rebel Rouser pups on gun dog central, tempting, but I dont think I'm ready yet.
thanks for the compliments guys, I wish I had taken better pix over the years.

Shummy, do you know Glen Weese?

LAST EDITED ON Nov-12-09 AT 09:02PM (MST)[p]I don't think so. Should I? Is he a pointer guy? I don't know much about viszlas or the guys who run them. I've had a few friends that ran them at one time or another. I do know that if you want a viszla, you want a Rebel Rouser dog.

Glen is a pointer guy. he may be out of the trialing game, but did it for 50 some years. I know the Glen Weese invitational is still held here in northern Utah, I just haven't talked to him in years, he has to be pushing 80 now. I got a few dogs from him in the past.

I got my Hungarian from Sonny Mortensen.

What sort of trials? AKC, American Field, NSTRA? It's funny that I've never heard of him. I'm not much of a trial guy, but I'm friends with lots of folks that are. Lets hear some dog names, I would probably recognize those! My pups came from Matt Tanner out of Tucson. They are out of Angels High Moon on the top, who is one of the top dogs in the nation. His daddy was Honkey Tonk Attitude and his mama was Rangers Barshoe Angel, who was the winningest female of any breed in NSTRA. On the bottom they are line bred Elhew Strike.

Heres my 2 goofballs.... Its nice when your neighbor owns a pheasant club, I've had a bird dog of some kind since I was old enough to play with one and always had plenty of birds that made it onto our land. They always say......"you cant make a good bird dog without birds" and we had plenty. Most of my dogs seemed to train themselves. Heres my GSP "Annie"...Shes about 8 now and really starting to show some grey in her muzzle, but will still run hard all day......

And this dork is my wifes dog....LOL. "Gus" is a German Wirehair about 3 now. He's got one helluva personallity, definatley one of the best hunting dogs I've ever had....and definatley one of the worst pets I've ever had :) He just dont know when to turn it off....LOL. Damn good dog though, natural backer, good range, and broke to wing faster than any dog I've ever owned.......

Not too bad considering I live in western Colo. and the bird hunting sucks! Hes a damn good dog though and has retrieved everything I have shot so far.

We've had fair representation of the pointing dogs, but the flushers have been somewhat thin. What if it's a hard charging lab that gets you going? I've got a couple of those as well.
Here is my dog Shanna, she's about 13 years old and these were the last retrieves she will probably ever make. She has taken up residence on my boys bed for the remainder of her years. In her youth she was unstoppable. She was one of the best bird dogs I've had the pleasure of seeing in action. When I lived in Provo she would literally climb the trees in my yard to get at the tweety birds in it. Strangers would stop by my house and ask to see her do it. Her origin is unknown, she was found as a puppy abandoned in the deserts of Southern Utah. I'm glad she fell into my hands, she has retrieved thousands of birds.

Good looking dogs Hardway. And nice labs too. I havent owned a lab. But I had one growing up, so I am fond of them!

Shummy,I forgot to answer your question. I cant remember the names of his dogs, let alone their bloodlines, were talking 10-15 years ago! NSTRA, I believe was the only trials he entered.

I entered one trial with a pup. won The puppy stakes, but the atmosphere just wasnt my cup of tea, so I never did another.

LOL! What's up Cody? I haven't seen you in a dozen years and you are as ugly as I remember.

:iconraidersfan:

Well that really explains some of your past comments that I have read on here. How did you like that game on sunday babe!

I liked it a lot.

Good looking bird dog BTW. I am planning on getting an upland dog myself, but I am leaning towards a GWP or GSP. I am a little worried the Wyoming winters will be too much for a GSP. Thoughts?

Get a good warm house and any of the shorthair breeds will be fine. I've ran my English pointers in below zero weather. I do like those GWP's though!

I have also got a little GSP she does ok and I do keep her outside but bring her in when it get really cold. What part of WY are you in now?

This is my gsp addy. She is a sweetheart with my kids and I have not seen any sign of quit from her while hunting.
She just had a litter of pups so we are out for a little while.

NO GUTS, NO STORY!!

This is Ace, he is pushing 6 years old and is out of Yellowstone Kennel's Nitro - I have guided upland bird hunters for the past 4 years with Ace and I am not sure how many pheasants, chuckers, quail, hungarian partridges he has flushed and retrieved but it is in the hundred's. This picture was taken on Colorado's Owlcreek Pass.

This is my new hunting buddy Baxter, a 9 month old German Wirehair out of Inverness Kennels in WA. He's my second GWP and is probably THE best pup I've ever had. Full of "character" and wants to please, almost to a fault. It'll be off to school towards the end of the summer and in the field this fall. The sticker shock was a little rough, but he's an important part of the family now.
