Is this Wrong???

I apply for big game in 7 states every year. This includes my wife, son and step-son in several of the states. And everytime we draw tags that run into chukar season, I have second thoughts about huntin big game.

Basically, a good week of chukar huntin is better than a successful elk hunt IMO. Is this wrong?? Does anyone else feel this way??

Just glad chukar season lasts 4+ months.

How can it be wrong if that's how you feel? I take it you have a good dog or two that makes your bird hunting even better and much more enjoyable than just shooting some birds. The Country is open, lots of room with not near the pressure of orange everywhere, filling a tag or the hunt ending before you must return. There's lots of positive things about upland bird hunting, i certainly do understand that!

But, no i don't feel the same way. Never did! :)

Since big game hunts are short and hard to come by I pick big game, knowing the bird hunts will always be there. If not then there's always coyotes.

NO GUTS, NO STORY!!

86, That's how I look at it. And I'm sharing Utah elk with my Dad this year, maybe Co archery too. Plus the wife, son, and step-son are huntin elk in Colorado. About a solid month again this year.

Sage, yea, he has the potential to be my best yet......and I've had at least one bird dog since I was 12 (38 years)

Shummy, If I had to pick and only do one, I'm with you. Like I said originally, I'm glad chukar season lasts 4 months.

Following a dog in chukar country is just plain good for the soul. I chased big antlers for years but the hassle of drawing a tag, putting the hunt together then running into to many hunters when you get there has taken the fun out of it for me. I like going to Wyo for antelope and I use my landowner buck tag every two or three years but from Nov - Jan I hunt chukar 3 or 4 times a week. Mostly just short hunts as I can't walk all day anymore but enough to get the dog out and get a couple birds.

With the big game situation the way it is I might give it up and just hunt birds. Maybe I'm just mad cause I didn't draw, I don't know....

NO GUTS, NO STORY!!

Kenny, I had lots of those type years and "settled" for bird huntin. Now I look forward to the first week of NV chukar like a big game hunt. Wall tent, quad, big camp, lots of fun.

But the last few years I've missed it because of big game tags. Since I started puttin my wife, son, step-son and myself in on seperate applications, we always seem to have tags.

Not complaining, just realizing I won't chukar hunt til Nov.

Ironhead, That is true but as I'm climbing a mountain @ 10,000 feet my thought is "why can't chukar season start before elk season, then this hill woundn't be so steep?"

Either way, it beats sitting on the couch or in front of the computer.
