Hams Fork- has anyone fished it?

LAST EDITED ON Apr-22-11 AT 06:54AM (MST)[p]Here is a pretty good blog with some good info on it. My grandfather's favorite place to fish in the whole world (besides the Provo) was the Green below Fontanelle, but Hams Fork was up near the top. It was one of those "can't miss trips" that I planned with a buddy 20 years ago and haven't been able to make it back to yet. I had done quite a bit of research on it back then, which involved talking with a couple of the guides on the Green who had fished there regularly. This blog really communicates what I remember about it. The key is the private land that you have to walk to below Viva Naughton Res. and to match the hatch - that much I do remember. It would be worth a trip just to try it out though.

Make sure you call over there first. Even with the dam the river can be completely blown out and covering the cattle pastures. Makes for a long drive just to turn around.

Where the hell you been anyways Tag? Haven't seen that freaky clown for months and all of a sudden here you are.

When you do get over there don't be afraid to chuck some streamers. I've had killer days with big buggers and shiner minnows. Mostly we use zebra midges in all colors, baetis nymphs, pheasant tails, everything pretty small, 18-20. Dry fly action can be AWESOME, I like pink PMD's, griffiths nats, pretty much the usual you find anywhere. The private section is the best. $10 and you get to catch some monster fish! Take a net cause they can be belligerent. there are some huge scuds the closer to the dam you get, I was wishing for some cocktail sauce one day, found a handfull and they looked delicious. Anyhow, good luck, post up how you do, I'm going to canada for bears in 3 weeks and won't go fish the Hams till later in June anyhow.
