My wife and I went for a 5 hour quad ride yesterday, mostly to see some new country and keep an eye out for a good antelope buck for a couple of friends with tags.

Heard and saw lots of quail but only one covey with chicks. and there were only 5 chicks in the covey, maybe 2 days old. Seems the first hatch is a little late. The small covey doesn't concern me yet, too small of a sample.

No chukar. But didn't get into too many spots where i expected to see any. And we were out most in the middle of the day.

Anybody else been out looking for goats and see chukar??

Lots of Antelope, and Antelope fawns here in the area i live in A couple real smoker bucks out here, but there always is a few.

Chukar and huns well i just don't know what to think, we were having what i would consider the perfect spring for awhile then we had quite a few cold and rainy days during what i would think was prime time for the hatch.

Haven't seen many clutches, in fact i been seeing coveys of adult birds without any chicks, i ain't got any idea what to think about that, guess we just gotta wait and see..
good luck this year,, get lots of pics to post...:)

In my area here on the coast, we had a cold hard rain for about 3 days. I was driving home from work one day and there was a clutch of Valley quail along side the road in the open. They were only a few days old and they were drenched. I can't imagine they survived.

The chukars are looking pretty grim here, it looks like I'm going to be a traveling chukar hunter this year.

Everything is running late here in E. Oregon. A few hours ago I scared a quail off a big clutch of eggs off my driveway. Seeing lots of adult chukar but no chicks yet. Seems to be plenty of grasshoppers for the chicks. I'm betting there will be a lot of birds with pin feathers when the season opens. I think I'll wait until November to get after them.

Chukar is looking good over here Shummy it only a 2 1/2 drive to Stateline NV on my side of Nevada. So it about the same for me to drive there from my home,It would be kind of meet in the middle you would have to get a NR license for Ca.

Less than 90 days guys!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with the young chicks early.

And ditto on the grasshoppers. Tons of bugs this year. They should survive/thrive.

The last couple of years in South central Idaho was unbelievable the amount of hoppers we had,, but i think the countys sprayed for em and i haven't seen a single one yet this year. not sure if it's because of the spray or just natural,
good for the garden bad for the birds.

It doesn't look real good In Eastern Washington this year. Another wet spring and early summer. Not many chicks at all.
Hope to get out to take a better look this weekend. I will spend more time in Western Idaho this year.

Shummy: Season here is Oct 16 - Jan 30 for Chukar, We have seen a bunch, it should be a good season around here for birds.
Tell Kenny and Carrie they are welcome come too.
