LAST EDITED ON Nov-24-12 AT 07:11PM (MST)[p]I just got a yellow lab for duck and upland game hunting. My roommate girlfriend, soon to be wife doesn't like any of the names I've thought of. I know this is a funny question, but what cool names have you guys come up with for your family/hunting dog? This is my first hunting dog. Thanks for your input!

My current dogs name is Spanky. Springer Spaniel.

My next dogs name is going to be Duece.

No idea if that helps you or not.

My brother-in-law is in the same boat other than he's not living with his girlfriend. His wife actually wants to name his lab "Danger". I'd rather have an ankle-biter named "Butch" than to disgrace the regal lab with such a stupid name. I would think all the other labs would make fun of it?

I think your lady would be pretty accepting of any name that ends with "y", for some reason chicks dig that. "Suzy" seems to be a pretty popular name with some people? Show her this post & I'll bet you get a thumbs up ;) Unless of course she is a nutjob & wants to name it something like Danger?

Well, my lady didn't like any of your suggestions. I like Sage or Wigeon myself, but my bro in law wants to use one of those names for his new dog.

Name her after some cool woman from Western history like "Annie Oakley" "Annie" for short or Big nose "Kate" or "Bonnie" after Bonnie and Clyde.
Or maybe name her after a sexy woman like "Raquel", "Sophia", "Jessica", etc.
Or maybe after a singer like "Reba", "Loretta", etc.
A female cartoon character, "Wilma", "Betty" etc. Maybe that will keep you busy for awhile. fatrooster.

My old female lab I had for many years was named Sally. Don't remember where I got that name, probably out of the clear blue. Sally retrieved many hundreds of gamebirds over her 13 year life. Whatever name you pick be sure to give her the training to make her a valued companion not just a hole digger in the back yard.

Pick out the one YOU like the most...

Then go alone to pick out your pup and take some treats with you & train you're new pup to come to you/respond when you say the name you picked out.

Then when you take your girlfriend with you to "pick out" the new pup, say "danger"... hopefully none will respond.

Then say the name you picked out & hopefully your newly trained pup will come running over & she'll have no choice but to agree with you!!

Besides, both you and your girlfriend are going to look like idiots standing on your front porch yelling "DANGER"!!

The neighbors will say all you ever do is cry wolf.
