I will be in Hyder, Alaska the middle of Aug and was wondering if anyone could tell me what lures and/or flies that would work good to catch salmon and trout in the rivers. The size or weight would help me too. I believe the pink and chum salmon will be running at that time. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks! Steve

When I went, the locals were using green pixie spoons. Made by mepps I think. The salmon were being caught on salmon flies rigged 16" or 2' below an ounce sinker. Tossed out and hopped slowly back to you. Hoping to drag the line across the bottom jaw of the upriver swimming fish. They swim with mouths open apparently and you can't keep it if it's not mouth caught

I use flies. Leech style, Purple Blues Black. Colorful pink, orange, White egg patterns work up the river. Seems like every time I go it is a different fly. I use a turned up eye #4 2xl The guys using lures a couple are pixi and vibramax. I like the blue Hang on you will love late Aug silvers.
