We got enough trout waters around here. What's the matter with few bass lakes? Smallies are better eating and more fun to catch anyways. That and they can survive on their own without state fish and wildlife supplimental stocks.

saddling up anyway."

Down south there are now three reservoirs...Quail, Sand Hollow, and Enterprise and possibly Gunlock (haven't looked at the regs)that are immediate kill on Smallmouths. I like them but since they weren't stocked by the "experts" they have met their fates. Who would have thought that by having them in Newcastle that someone would have put them in their livewell and moved a few?

The problem with illegal stocking with small mouth bass in those lakes in southern Utah is that they live and thrive well in streams. There is endangered fish in the Virgin River drainage so by law, they can not have those fish in those lakes incase they get into the Virgin River.
Statewide fish are being moved illegally around the state. In some of those areas those fish are causing problems in those reservoirs. Small mouth bass are very prolific and if not harvested they can cause lots of problems in a lake as well as stunt their own growth. That is what has happened in Jordanelle with the bass being small because there is not enough feed in the lake to grow the bass. No question that they are fun to catch but if not harvested they stunt their own growth.
Just know that there are federal rules that pertain to where certain species of fish can be. That is why the catch and kill laws are now in affect. Also small mouth will not survive in high mountain lakes because the fry need warmer water to grow when they are fry. Some of those lakes the bass spawn but the growing season for the fry is not long enough for them to survive.
