Gonna Experiment with an Adjustable Peep Sight on my REMINGTON ML700?

Gonna need a Turret!:D

Wondering what is the Best Peep Sight on the Market?

Hopefully somebody makes it in a Stainless/Sliver Finish?:D

Looking for Info Guys & Thanks!

I used to know of places worth Hiking in to for Elk & Deer!
Thanks to Illegal Bastards & the USFS not enforcing Rules you can Zing in to them Places on Wheelers now & not see a Damn thing!
But by GAWD it don't take long for them U-Tards to get there with all the Unethical BS and the New Technology!

Williams is good, very easy to install with no gunsmith needed. But, don't buy it thinking the turrets are easily adjusted in the field. You will need a screwdriver to adjust the turrets. If you leave the screws loose enough to adjust the turrets it will change your zero.
The Lyman looks like a better sight, but you will need a gunsmith to drill your receiver, unless using a White.

You don't need or want a turret. First off I am using the lymans on all my side locks. I got a set of turrets for my first one. That was before I knew how they worked.
The Lyman has a small button on the side. WHen you push it in this releases the slide and allows you to slide the slider to where ever you want fast. If you use the turrets you will go click at a time. and to go from 100 yards to 300 your going to have to click it maybe over 100 clicks. All you have to do is push the button and slide it to where you want in about 1 second.
In this picture you can see the button on the left side. I push it and slide the slider so the 0- is lined up with the painted line on the slider.

A friend of mine had his Remington 700 drilled for the Lyman. It works great but the front sight needs to be smaller to be a better gun past 200 yards.

I have the Williams FP sight on my Knight MK85. I use it with the slider screw kind of loose. That way I can adjust it in the field. I use it like I do the lymans but the lymans are a better sight for field adjustment.

I would like to put a Lyman on my knight but the problem I see is the front sight is way to big. I din't see spending the extra money to upgrade the rear sight if the front sight is going to be the problem. I don't know of any smaller sights for the 700 either. You might have to file your front sight down. I have been thinking about that my self. Ron

Thanks Ron!

Wished Lyman had the Peep in Silver like your Silver Willams?

I've never had a Peep Sight so I don't know 'JACK' about them!

Thanks for the Info!

I do know I've had just about enough of Worthless 1X Power Scopes!

The Williams doesn't have the button for quick release to slide it quickly so I ordered the turret for it. It takes a long time to move the dang thing but that is my option for the MK85. I might have it drilled some day and a Lyman added. Ron

IdahoRon,

Thank you for posting pictures. We appreciate your help!

I am trying to compare the Williams FP to the Lyman 57. You're the only guy that I know that has both. Which of those rear sights has more play in the rail that has the peep mounted on it? When I say "play", I am talking about putting my finger on the end of the rail and being able get horizontal and vertical movement out of the rail. I have a used Lyman 57 that has far more play in the rail than I am comfortable with. What I don't know is if that play is from prior damage to the sight or if a new Lyman 57 would have the same amount of play in it. In your opinion, which of those rear sights has been machined better? specifically the slide design of each sight.

Thanks again for your help,
COBUK

That is not a real fair test. The Williams has a locking screw on the side that will make it totally solid. The Williams is not intended to be a field adjustable sight like the lyman is. I use it like that with the understanding I might lose my sight lock screw.
The Lyman's I have got a little play but I can tell you from experience that is not an issue. The sight sits where it is. If you lifted the sight at the same time you shot it well you would be off but I just adjust it and shoot. It is always on sight. I have a few guns that have been sighted in with the painted marks for years. I don't ever need to re sight the gun it is always on. Ron

Ron - I've read a lot on peeps as I'm going to be trying them this year for the 1st time on a Knight Mountaineer and an Ultra Lite. I'm wanting a field adjustable sight and it does seem like the Williams is the only option short of tapping the guns. I did email Lyman asking if they might ever consider making their sights to fit a Knight and they said they have no plans for it. They'd send my suggestion to marketing but I'm not holding my breath on that. So for your opinion, would you say it would be worth it to tap the guns for a Lyman or just go with a Williams? I'm assuming the issue you have with your front sight is the bead size when you say it is too big? I was also wanting to use a filed down front sight and use the 6'oclock hold. My Truglo front sight has the smallest bead I've found but I will still need just a point if I'm wanting to shoot in the 200-300 yd distance range with open sights.

The FP sight is a good sight. The only problem is they are not intended to adjust in the field but they can do it. The lock screw can be left loose enough to make it happen. I would check the screw once and a while. I never had it loosen up after I set it this year. The Lyman is my favorite but in this case I think they will be fine.A friend of mine drilled his remington 700 to fit a Lyman and he is glad he did. I would rather have the lyman but I do like the williams.

When I was shooting my Knight with the williams sight at 200 yards I was struggling. The front sight is WAY too big for that kind of shooting. I need to do something different but I have not found anything I like yet. Ron

Does anyone know if Williams makes the FP sight that fits a Knight Mountaineer or Ultra Lite. Their website doesn't list these models and they don't even have an email address for customer service which seemed weird? I can call them and see if they know but thought I'd see if anyone has ever ran into this. I've seen that others have used the WRGS sight or the NECG sight but I'd prefer a sight more like the FP.

I do have a Lyman that I like for a White but it would not be capable of putting it on a Knight.

Call them. I did when I got mine I wanted the target knob for the elevation knob. I have this set up on my knight mk85. Ron
