I plan on using my CVA Wolf again this year for cow elk in Colorado. Light in weight and accurate. It has served me well. Can't wait to see what I draw this year with no pref points.May end up with a leftover somewhere.

I'm planning on using my CVA Wolf this year for elk too. At this point i'm just so indecisive on what bullet to use. I read all about expansion, ballistics, etc. and every manufacturer claims their bullet works the best. I'll need to try a few out. I'll want to be ready to take a 200 yard shot and feel confident in my bullet (assuming good shot placement).

LAST EDITED ON Mar-14-14 AT 11:11AM (MST)[p]Where I elk hunt with a muzzleloader ,most shots are less than 75 yards. For me ,I would not feel comfortable shooting at any animal over 125 yards with an open sighted muzzleloader.too much chance for error.
I call mornings and evenings and stalk in dark timber in mid day.I have called elk to with in 15 yards before and stalked to with in 25 yards.to me the fun of hunting the muzzleloader season is to see how close I can get for a shot not how far away I can shoot.

That's completely understandable. I'll not be seeking a 200 yard shot, but would like to be prepared if that's my only chance. Like you, I hope to have a MUCH closer shot than that.
