Ok I have been doing a lot of shopping around for a ML and from everything I have seen it looks like the Accura V2 is where you get the best bang for your buck.
This is all just from what I have read and heard at local retail stores. Anyone have any other suggestions or thoughts on the V2 before I comit to this?

I purchased the CVA Accura mountain rifle instead of the V2. I love the Mountain rifle. I shoulders a lot better than the V2, has a rubberized stock for grip and a weather proof coating on the barrel. I purchased the Realtree Max1 version. In my opinion the MR is a better gun.

MR is a good shooter. I sold an Apex recently and bought this MR for my dad since he was lugging around that 8lb apex. This one is much easier! Be aware though, if you have to use open sights, the MR is not the best choice out there due to the fact it is not drilled and tapped for open sight screws and the rear stock comb is to high to see "traditional" open sights.

I mounted a Seeall open sight on this one and it worked out great.

Frontier, would you recommend that I purchase a See All gunsight for my TC Encore ML rifle? I am 66 years old and have trouble seeing my front sight clearly. Heard that the See All eliminates the need for a front sight on a muzzle loader weapon. Cowtag

LAST EDITED ON Apr-05-14 AT 06:22PM (MST)[p]I did all the same research, and came to the same conclusion as Verticalslope, and got my Accura MR from the same guy Frontier Gander suggested, Carlos at Eds Gun Shop.
Great guy, great service.
I like this gun. It carries and shoulders like your favorite .22.

Mine shoots 2 1/2 inch groups at 200 yards (with a 5X Leupold) , better tham some centerfires.

It certainly could be worth looking into. My dad is far sighted and this site works real good for him. It takes getting used to thats for darn sure but you do appreciate it when you're actually aiming at game. Its a very quick sighting system.

Mine is very accurate, more so than many centerfires with scopes.
Accuracy has nothing to do with barrel length (within reason).
With muzzleloaders it is more about finding a powder, bullet and load that your pratictular gun likes.

Recoil is not bad at all.
Recoil is more a matter of stock design, and the MR stock is a good one with a good recoil pad.

With any muzzleloader, as you incerase the charge you will find a point where accurcay falls off and recoil incerases substantuly. This is the point where you are useing too much powder, time to back off a few grains.

I load 110 gr BH 209 and a 250 Barns T-EZ.

When my Accura MR was new, I had already decided to try BH 209 and Barns bullets on the advice of several MZ hunters whos opinion I respect. As I worked up from 90 grains, I found accuracy acually got better and better up to 115, where it started to drop off. At 120 grains, suddenly the recoil was terrible and the groups opened up substantily. I backed down to 110. I found a load the gun likes and it preforms on elk sized game.

How about the velocity? Does the length of the MR barrel allow as much of a charge and burn off all the powder before the bullet exits the barrel? In theory, it seems like you should be able to get a bit more velocity out of the V2 over the MR.

I purchased the Accura V2 and wish I had got the Accura MR. Be sure to invest in the Blackhorn breech plug for it. I've owned 10 muzzleloaders and the Accura is by far my favorite.
