With or without a scope?

This will be my 3rd year muzzleloading. The last 2 years I came close to killing a couple of bucks but haven't sealed the deal yet. It sure is fun though and I usually don't see another soul out there.

My question is: I'm currently using a scope but was wondering how many of you don't use one and what are the pros and cons of both?

I keep hearing people say how they can shoot out to 200 yards. To me that seems very far or I'm just not that good yet.

Thanks for any info.

What State are you hunting? If your hunting in a State with no scope regulations, then I'd use a scope. So it might help to know whether you have limitations on a scope. Colorado cannot use any scopes during the muzzy season and some states allow 1x scopes.
I am hoping and planning to use a scoped muzzy in CO during the rifle season this year in CO.

Thanks for the reply COLOelkman. I'm in Utah and we can use a 1x scope.

Ah! In that case, my preference would be to use a peep....I think. I actually had a UT muzzy tag a few years ago and used a 1x scope (TC hunter hawkin). I was able to be very comfortable at 200 yds with it and it had the finest crosshairs that I could find. I really just didn't like the view thru the 1X scope at longer ranges as it makes the target smaller than the naked eye.

I actually plan to use an adjustable peep this summer to see how well my eyes do at longer ranges with a peep. You may have seen some of the articles on here (Marley) where people can shoot 300 yds or more accurately and I'm planning to see how well I can do at longer ranges. So I can only attest to shooting with a globe sight at 100+ yds quite easily so I think the different guns I now have with peeps should extend that range and sight system. I'll just have to see how far is my personal limit.

So, nothing wrong with the 1x as 200 yds may be good enough so it just depends on how long a range you are wanting to master. BTW I am going to sell my 1X soon so let me know if you are interested in it!

shoot a Williams ghost ring peep sight fiber optic dots on each side of the ghost ring.works nearly as good as a scope out to 200 yards from me.

It's an easy decision for me. I've hunted my whole life with open sights. Rifle, or muzzleloader. It doesn't matter. However, I hunt the timber while still hunting, so I don't have long shots.

If you're hunting more open terrain a scope will work better for you.
