No Excuses bullets?

Anyone use these bullets? I'll be shooting them out of my Encore Pro Hunter. I was gonna start with 100 grains of powder and work up/down from there with 460 grain bullets for deer.
Thanks!

I tried some out of my knight and they seemed to be tumbling.
They may be a hair to loose in my barrel, I might have a little blow by. Didn't shoot well. I have heard they are awesome out of a White rifle though.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-28-14 AT 06:28PM (MST)[p]For deer, I would start at 80 and work up to a max of 100 gr. My elk load is 90 gr of 3f 777

And just to prepare you, my Omega shot those bullets at 5-8" at 25 yards and tumbled, all due to the QLA. Since I bought mine when their website says "shoots sabots and conicals well", I sent my gun in and they said nothing wrong with my barrel but I should shoot sabots because it is a sabot gun.

You might try a wad or a sub base. Some people have had luck cutting off the petals of a sabot and putting them under the bullet

I was wondering about a sabot with them. They seem pretty loose fitting in the barrel.

The Encore is designed for sabots. If you can shoot sabot legally where you hunt, I would skip the conicals. However, I only hunt in Colorado, so I have to use conicals. About the only conicals that shot well from my Omega were powerbelts and Hornady FPBs

Although I prefer a 600 Grain Slug!

The NO-EXCUSES 495 Grain Slugs Ain't Bad!

90 Grains of Black Nasty 3 fff Powder!

The Owner Claimed He might start making the 600's!

Wish He'd GIT-R-DONE!

I pour my own 600-grain conicals from a SAECO 50-caliber mould. They shoot very well out of my .504 Whites, but don't know how they would act in other rifles. It all has to do with bullet fit to barrel, as we all know...

The problem with a 600 grain bullet is it is like throwing a brick... with just about the same trajectory. For my money, there isn't much on the North American continent that is going to walk away from a solid hit with a 460-grain conical.

I've packed a Remington 700 all my Life!

So when the ML 700's came out I liked the same feel/Safety/Bolt etc!

Silver with Camo Stock!

Started out with Sabots!

Throwed them in every direction with a 6' pattern!

Then went to Slugs!

The heavier I went the better it shot!

I wasted over 400.00 Zeroing this SOB in!

600 Grain Slugs is what She likes!

She'll Black & Blue your Shoulder in one shot!

I Don't Care for Black Nasty Powder but again,3 fff of 90 Grains is what She likes!

Tried all the other Powders & they just don't have the Stomp that Black has!

I've Tore Bucks in Half with this Gun!

I've moved them 15' with a Squeeze of the Trigger!

I never woulda thought I'd ever be shooting a load like this out of a SmokePole!

Elk, I use the Great Plains bullet made by Hornady. 425 grain HB HP. I have a .54 caliber old Remington ML rifle that I have used for years now. Would you advise me to switch (for experimenting with something that could be more ACCURATE and also more POWERFUL) to the 600 grain No Excuses bullet? I can purchase them easily online/telephone call. Never used them but something new to me could be better. I will be packing my Remington within 45 days in Colorado seeking a nice big ole fat cow elk. I use 777 as my power source but I do have an old can of Goex up on the upper shelf. Wonder about its shelf life? Could it still be potent after living in the same can on the same spot for 15 years? Nice and cool and not too humid where it sits. Any advice or opinion would be appreciated. Cow Tag

Elk, wonder if a person can use the Black Horn 209 powder in our Remington model 700 muzzle loader rifles? I have a new ignition system for 209 primers (been advised to use the Winchester or the Remington low power primers---is there anything to that?) and I have used 777 for years now. Have you ever shot Black Horn in your Remington .54 ML? I know that you use black powder but what about Black Horn in your hunting rifle?

Well cowtag!

Mine is a 50 Caliber!

All SmokePoles are Different & Like different Medicine!

If you've got it dialed in with a fairly Heavy Conical I wouldn't screw with it!

I don't know if the Law/Rule is still in effect in Colorado or not?

They once Ruled your Slug couldn't be any longer than twice the Claliber, which puts my Gun in Violation if the Law is still in Effect?

I Don't really like the 'Black Nasty'!

It's what My Gun Likes & Guaranteed more Stomp!

I had a Guy Back East build me a 209 Conversion long before anybody was talking about them!

I've shot nothing but the Standard 209's & Never Ever Seen/Had a problem!

Never tried the less powerful Primers & I'm not going to!

That 209 Conversion was the Best thing ever Invented for a SmokePole!

Pull the Trigger & She's There!:D

What kind of Accuracy you getting?

Elk, Using my old Remington 700 ML I usually can place my bullets inside of a six inch black bull's eye at the standard 100 big steps. I use 90 grains of 777 and the 425 grain Hornady Great Plains bullets with a Remington Muzzle Loader primer (reduced power. I am 66 years old and like many, many other things, I am not near as good of a marksman as I used to be. I use a Lead Sled to do my practice shooting from. It is a good steady rest and I am all over the 6" black bull's eye but I am usually inside of the black circle most every time using this system. The old Remington is in .54 caliber. Has anyone ever used the sort of new Black Horn 209 powder in a Remington model 700 muzzle loading rifle? I may try it in my weapon soon. Would appreciate any and all comments or advice to my questions. Thanks, Cow Tag

Hey cowtag!

I haven't tried the blackhorn 209!

Be Interesting to see if it has the same Smack as the Black?

Overall Good Reviews!

But I see where they claim it's 'Non-Corrosive' but several Guys are saying it's Quite Corrosive & you best keep the Gun Clean?

Using the information you advised, I sent Western Powder an email note requesting available information. Thanks for the address. Depends on the information I receive from them if I should use BH powder in my Remington 700 ML. I have a cow tag for unit 61 in Colorado this September and I am starting to practice my shooting with both of my elk hunting black powder weapons: Remington 700 ML in .54 and a TC Encore in .50. both in stainless steel with synthetic stocks. Will give detailed info concerning the outcome of using Black Horn powder in my Remington. I know that I can use BH in the Encore. Thanks to everyone for their imput. Cow Tag

Elk Assassin, There are three hunters in our group with my twin brother Bill (Black Sheep); myself (Cow Tag) and the original John_The_Bastard. We hail from deep south Illinois and we hunt Colorado every year usually for cow elk with the black powder weapons. We have a good camp and do enjoy and appreciate the Hunting Colorado experience. We are a mature group (66-66-67) but give it our all in regards to elk hunting. We have a whitetail deer behind every bush here in southern Illinois and we hunt them hard during the archery and firearm seasons but we really love hunting elk in Colorado. John_The_Bastard is our group leader as you would imagine and he is a straight shooter with his TC Encore .50 caliber. Bill shoots a Knight and I shoot my old Remington 700 ML. We look forward to Hunting Colorado for 11 months in a row until we can return yet another time. We plan on hunting there till we cannot stand up and walk. Old age is after us but there is where we keep her----behind us. Looking forward to the screaming big bulls in unit 61; the gravel road called Divide; the smell of the campfire; the chill of the early morning atmosphere; and the camaraderie of elk camp. We hope to meet up with you one of these times along the trail. Cow Tag

I see cowtag!

You're part of the J_T_B crowd!

Let us know how the BH 209 works out for you!

I can't see there'd be a problem in the Remington Stainless!

I use 3 fff which Hotter/Pistol Powder & have fired countless Rounds!

I believe the Remingtons are Built Strong enough there ain't gonna be any Problems!

I also have a couple of Remington ML 700's in 54 caliber, just never shot them much!

Sounds like a Great time in Elk Camp!

Best of Luck Guys!

The John_The_Bastard group reads every word you publish on MM and also another favorite is the Texas Hunter. He certainly knows what he is talking about when he mentions anything pertaining to Black Powder hunting in the West. John_The_Bastard will carry along a coal bucket full of his perfect tomatoes for us to enjoy on our annual black powder hunt in Colorado in about 40 days. He is quite the camp chef also. We are hoping to harvest 3 cow elk this season hunting near Delta and Montrose, CO. I will keep you informed about our practice sessions using Black Horn vs. 777; using the sort of new Hornady conical and the No Excuses lead slug vs. PB; and also about the accuracy of each. August is here and the countdown has officially began. Appreciate your advice.

Purchased a box of the No Excuses lead bullets in the 535 grain flavor and in the .54 caliber. Only shot a couple in my Remington 700 .54 ML rifle.........the bullets are very easy to push down the bore of my rifle. I read on MM where a couple of you use felt pads between the powder charge and the bullet. In your opinion, would this help? Of course, it does nothing to the actual size of the bullet going down the bore but what about after the power stroke pushes the bullet OUT of the barrel? I plan on spending time at the range very soon using these No Excuses bullets and 777 powder and Remington ML primers (reduced power primers). I know that Elk Assassin likes heavy conical bullets in his Remington 700 and I will be trying them soon. Just wondering about placing the felt pads between the powder and bullet. Any positive and educational comments are welcomed. Cow Tag

I scribed a short note about No Excuses and it appeared on the ML forum but does not appear when I hit the VIEW ALL messages. anyone know why. what did I do incorrectly?

I telephoned Midway, USA today and the sales person said that I should call them back in two weeks. Nothing had arrived as of today but they were expecting shipment soon.
