LAST EDITED ON Jul-31-14 AT 08:47AM (MST)[p]Been reading about some black powder rifles requiring different breech plugs in order to use the Black Horn powder. Do any of you use Black Horn in your TC Encore .50 caliber black powder rifles? I plan on using the 300 grain Thor bullet in this Encore. Does this Encore have the correct breech plug? The rifle has the factory original breech plug in it. Any questions, concerns, advice, or imput is appreciated concerning Black Horn powder and TC Encore black powder rifles.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-31-14 AT 11:30AM (MST)[p]I got my encore pro hunter 3 or 4 years ago, have had no problems what so ever, it will burn anything you put down the tube, with the factory breech plug. Be sure to get you a .116 drill bit or I think a #32 drill bit to clean the flash channel out every 3 to 6 shots. I have never shot Thor bullets, mine will put 3 shots in one hole using Hornady SST/ML 250 grain bullets with T/C super glide sabots and 100 grains of blackhorn 209. Next best load is a Hornady HP/XTP 300 grain using a harvester crush rib (green) sabot, it is a .430 44 Cal Bullet. Shoots 1 1/2" groups using 100 grains of BH 209. Both bullets shot at 100 yards.
You should clean your firing pin assy about twice a year. Thompson center does not tell you how to do it in the manual. Take the barrel off the action. Pull the hammer back, loosen the allen under the hammer face, remove the firing pin assy. Pay attention to how the spring is installed, it is cone shaped, put it back in the same way. Large end of the cone goes away from the hammer. Never dry fire the gun, the spring can break easily. Good Luck

No problems with BH209 in my Encore.

My breach plug on my TC has been fine. Make sure the hole is clean. Also, people say to use a standard 209 primer. I haven't tried muzzy primers with my 209 (just switched this year and bought new ones) but so far so good.

Just Correcting My earlier post, The T/C Encore takes a 1/8" drill bit to clean out the flash channel of the breech plug.

The CVA's have a different breach plug for optimal use of BH powder. The stock plug on the CVA is not concaved in like the T/C's. The "CVA BH specific" breach has a concave seat instead of a flat seat.
