Texas Hunter, I examined my old Remington model 700 ML rifle this morning and it does not have the 'false muzzle.' I believe this indicates that conical bullets would be appropriate to use in this rifle---rifling all the way to the end of the stainless steel barrel. In turn, I checked out the muzzle of my newer TC Encore muzzle loader in .50 caliber. It has the false muzzle as you predicted and advised. The last inch of so of the stainless steel barrel is smooth---no rifling to the end. Therefore, this rifle should be better matched up with sabot bullets for best accuracy. I have used the all copper Thor 300 grain bullet in the Encore with OK accuracy. I hunt Colorado so cannot use the saboted bullets that this Encore probably would like. Always something to think about in our everyday lives. Texas Hunter, any comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Cow Tag

Sounds like you have it just right. The Remington should be able to shoot conicals or sabots pretty well. And I can't tell you if the Encore you have will shoot flat based conicals are not, some will (my brother's does) so you might try it. If not, then powerbelts, thors and my favorite Hornady FPBs will probably fly pretty well. Also Sabotloader was having some luck using sub bases in QLA guns(MMP ballistic bridge sub-bases) from Muzzleload Magnum products.

Basically if you get something with a rear "bell" on it that seals the gases behind the bullet when it exits the QLA, it might work.
