Just picked up a new Accura V2 Northwest and am trying to put together a line up of possible bullet/powder combos to try. All bullets must be all lead non-saboted, powder must be granular and I have to use open sights,#11 primers or musket caps. I will primarily be hunting elk.

Results so far:
Hornady Great Plains 385gr w/ 80gr Pyro RS- 6 shots went everywhere but the same place. Powder was 20 years old so I bought some 777ffg.
Hornady Great Plains 385gr w/ 80gr 777ffg - 1st shot low left, swabbed once, second bullet would not go more than 10" down barrel.
Powerbelt all-lead 345gr w/ 80gr 777ffg- All bullets loaded easy, 3 shot group @ 50 yds 3". Went back to 100yds and increase powder to 100gr, 1 and only shot went right of previous group by 4" but stayed the same elevation, had to quit.

Bullets I'd like to try:
Bull Shop 460gr NEx
No Excuse 460gr

Any bullet/powder combos you have that meet Idaho requirements and shoot well from your Accura.

Thanks

LAST EDITED ON Nov-23-14 AT 09:07PM (MST)[p]I don't have the gun you have but the no excuses bullets are almost as good as mine. I have shot a fair amount of them testing.
They shoot well paper patched too. I shot 80 gr of pyrodex P with an over powder wad. That is the same that I use with my paper patched bullets. Ron

Idahoron,

Why Pyro P vs RS?, I thought P was for pistols. What kind of paper and wad are you using? Did you order No excuses without lube or just wipe it off for use with paper? Do you make and sell bullets?

Thanks Matt

Look up my past posts. I am making a Lee 500 S&W bullet. I am wrapping it with two wraps of 9# onion skin and sizing them to fit my barrels. Like I said I did that with the NE bullets and they shot good.
Pyrodex P is a faster powder. I only use 80 grains and get 1320 FPS with a 460 gr bullet. that load has taken a pile of game.
I took the lube off the NE bullets. I am sure they could be ordered with no lube.
I do make bullets but I don't make them to sell. On another forum there was a contest with bullets. I sent in some and a bunch of other guys did the same. My bullet won the test. YOu can read the data here.

Thanks Ron, I'll probably order No Excuses with lube and try both ways.

Is Pyro P better than 777ffg? What about 777fffg?

What musket caps do you use?

Thanks

LAST EDITED ON Nov-26-14 AT 04:25PM (MST)[p]I tested T7 ffg and I didn't think it shot as well as P did. You can get some awesome speed out of it though. I would rather hit slow than miss fast. I use CCI #11 mag caps. The new Remington's seem decent. ALso I would use an over powder wad with the NE bullets. You will like them I think. Ron
