Backpack muzzleloader hunting

I'm curious what you guys that have done overnight hunts with a muzzy do in respect to after the shot and what gear you take with.
Thinking of going to Colorado this year.
I've hunted with a muzzleloader a little but only day hunts.
What about if the weather gets nasty?

CVA Wolf is short and light, add a Williams peep sight and its a great muzzy.

As for the weather. Cover the bore and keep the primer area out of the wetness. One has to adapt when the weather hits so you need to figure something out when you settle on a rifle and go from there.

I keep a ziplock bag of patches with windex applied to them. Not a ton just a few. I also have a few that are pre loaded with the oil I use which is remoil. I left my oil in my base camp and didn't have any. I used breakfree and ended up with a hangfire that cost me a elk. I won't use untested gear again.

After swabbing with the windex patch I use a dry patch. I run it down and back out. I flip it over and push it down and pop a couple caps. What I want to see is a burnt patch. If the patch is only slightly burnt pop a couple more. Make sure the nipple is clear. Then I run the oil patch down. Make sure it is not overly wet. I carry a jag, A nipple wrench, spare nipple, a patch puller and a bull puller. All of that fits in a small bullet box. My guns shoot best with a clean bore. If I have to shoot like your post asks I want to get it back to clean as I can get it
.
For wet weather I cover the muzzle with electricians tape. On my inline when hunting I cap the nipple and cover the opening in the action with tape. Don't worry about taking off the tape for the shot. The air being forced down the barrel will remove the tape before the bullet gets there.
My pack is also a scabbard for my gun and I have a rain fly that goes over the gun, pack and everything.
My Renegades and Hawken are treated the same but the nipple is tougher to keep dry. I have a rubber cap that fits over the nipple. Some use what is called a cow's knee. It is leather and goes over the whole area where the lock is all the way around.

I have a knight disc extreme so no need to look for a gun. Just wondering how everyone deals with there guns.
I also use the windex/rubbing alcohol on a patch then a clean one after every shot.
Was wondering if a piece of inertube might work to cover the action. Could help keep out moisture.

Electritians tape as stated,it's is always in my pocket hunting.
My pack has scabbard and fly.
I use a safari sling and my gun hangs under my parka mostly, barrel at downward angle.Combat style.
Not sticking up open.
Neoprene scope covers give a bit of cover over hammer area.
Was thinking about making a neoprene wrap/cover that has velcro for over hammer area, under scope/cover.

Looks like it would work well for snow, but how does it work in a downpour (rain). It says it has "water resistant" fabric. Will it keep water out of your barrel if pointed up and out of your breech in a downpour?

I used it last year in CO. It rained pretty hard on me for a couple hours. I kept the muzzle pointed down. My gun is a Knight DISC which is supposed to be water proof. I never had a problem when it came time to shoot. The gun was damp at the end of the day. I have started using it most of the time. Just to protect from dust, and scratches. Only takes a second to remove.

I cut off fingers of the cheep doctor/dentist latex gloves and stretch them over the barrel. My 209 primers fit nice and snug so I never worry about covering the breach area.

If you ever feel that water has compromised your system, it is time to take a practice shot. Do not wait until your aiming at an animal to find out.

Well hopefully I can draw the tag and try it out.
It would be pretty exciting to tag a big buck in the high country with a muzzleloader.
I really enjoy shooting it. Pretty fun stuff.

I pack in a few of those pre-made cleaning patches in a baggie and the swab that screws into the rod. I clean out the barrel that night before I go to bed, after a shot of course.
