Well I got back out today with my 50 cal CVA Accura v2 and the No Excuses 460's.

Prior to today I could never get under the 4" group. I went up and down with powder and the group got bigger or was about the same. I tried Pyro RS, P and T7ffg.

Did some research and suggestions were to try a felt wad between bullet and powder.

Holy smokes (muzzleloader term) first 3 with wad and 90gr of pyro P @ 100yards-- 2" !!!!!!
Went up to 100gr same powder-- 2.5" group
Tried 85gr of T7 3" group
100gr T7 had 3 out of 5 @ 1" !!! the other 2 flew 5" low right

Shot 2 pyro P 90gr and 1 T7 100gr out to 175 yds and got a 4" group 12-15" low

The felt wad is a must for these bullets in my Accura.....Deadly!!

Great shooting with a great bullet. Like your gun, mine likes a wad. Good luck this fall!

If you want to see it really shoot you should wrap those bullets with two wraps of 9# onion skin paper and size them to fit the barrel. Then use the over powder wad. The paper protects the barrel from lead fouling. The paper also protects the bullet from the barrel and the flame. The wad doubles the protection. Your overall groups might reduce by 50% but the one thing I have seen is that the paper patched bullets are more consistent. They shoot the same all the time. I am using the Lee 500 S&W bullet paper patched. I use an over powder wad and 80 gr of pyrodex P.

Ron, what mail order company could a hunter order the #0 onion skin paper patch material from? Thanks, Cow Tag

Ron, is the Lee 500 paper patched bullet a home grown variant of your making? Can you purchase this bullet commercially? I plan on using either the Thor, the new Federal, or the Hornady in my .50 caliber Encore. Own a new can of the BH 209 powder, CCI 209 primer, a .50 wool wad, and will roll the onion skin around each bullet two times. Any advice here?

The Lee 500 S&W bullet are bullets I made with the Lee mould. I don't know if the bullets you listed will work paper patched. I know the NE bullet will work I tried them and they shoot great with a paper patch.

Idahoron, I could apply the patch to the Thor, The new Federals, and the tried and proven Hornady muzzle loader bullets and just find out for myself. Would you recommend that I use the wool pad between the powder and any of the above 3 mentioned bullets. No use me doing experimentation if someone has already done so and knows for a fact that it either WILL or Will Not work. Appreciate your advice and information. I have a old Remington model 700 ML rifle in .54 caliber. Last year in Colorado, I used the No Excuses lead bullet in the 535 weight flavor. I took Elk Assassin's advice about using the very heavy NO Excuses and my old rifle liked them using 90 grains of 777. I did use the wool pad between the bullet and the powder with these bullets and the pad did improve accuracy. Did not get the chance to shoot last September. All advice is welcomed. Thanks. Cow Tag

A waste of time using paper patching on all the above bullets.

Thor has a hollo base, along with the FPB and the federal has a plastic skirt that fattens up and engages the rifling.

I have a 1 in 28" - 50 cal green mountain barrel . The bullet doesn't seem to matter as much as the powder. I've gone thru every powder substitute you can think off.

All the substitutes throw the bullets outside a 4" grouping, but with black powder I can group less than 4".
