TC Omega Z5 50 cal. w/ Nikon BDC scope
100GR BH 209 Barnes 250 TEZ
1 1/2" -2" @100 yrds 3"-4" 200 yrds 3 shots

CVA Hawken with a 32" barrel in .58cal shooting 100gr Goex 2f, .020" patch and home cast .570" round balls.

Normally I am angry if its not 2" at 150 yards. I use open sights but most importantly, I put sights on my rifle that work great for my eyes and allow me to shoot that far.

150 yards, other than my first oopsie of forgetting to adjust my ramp sight, it was a great day and kept the 4 other well inside a 3" bulls eye.

I have two:

Knight 50 cal. Long range hunter, 95 gr of BH 209 and a 350 gr Hornady FPB. Open sights, 3" at 100 yards makes me happy

White whitetail: 90 gr 3f 777, 460 gr Bullshop, 1.5" at 100 yards. open sights.

Hunt only Colorado, so conicals and open sights are a must.

I have mostly guns I've not yet shot but hope to do some this summer. I got out of control and bought a fleet of White's and will be selling several of them this year. Kind of an addiction I guess!
Plan to keep:
White UltraMag with thumbhole laminate stock, .504 with Lyman peep
White Super 91 stainless with black composite, .504...same peep
Knight Ultra Light, 50 cal. and need to get a rear peep.
Will be shooting Bullshop and White PowerPunch conicals.
Hope to post some results later.

I like old school looks with high tech guts and dependability
This first one is a TC Renegade with a 32? 45 cal Green Mountain barrel, 1-18 twist. It has a Lyman 57 SML peep, a Lee Shavers globe front sight with a level. The load for this gun is 80 gr of Pyrodex P with a Paper patched 459-405-HB, and an over powder wad.

Since I first wrote this description I have changed the first two rifle. I overhauled the trigger guards to have a hook. They make for a lot better shooting rifles.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-06-15 AT 06:28AM (MST)[p]I have an old Remington model 700 ML rifle in stainless steel. So old it was born with a .54 caliber barrel. I use 90 grains of 777 and a No Excuses bullet that weighs 535 grains. Taking Frontier's advice I place a wool wad between the powder and the bullet. It has a Lyman 57 peep sight on the backside and a regular blade front sight topped with an orange bead. This rifle prefers a "fouled barrel" for best accuracy. I like everything about this set up except for the fact that my rifle is a long weapon and is sort of difficult to carry on your shoulder in rough territory.

Just bought a CVA Optima on clearance and mounted a Vortex 1x on top I got a great deal on. Including the breech plug to shoot BH209, I'm into it < $250. I just received the sizing kit for Thors and will start working up a load once they get shipped. For the price I'm really impressed with the setup so far, we'll see how she shoots...

Remington ultimate muzzleloader. Topped with a Vortex Viper HS. 150 grains by volume (105 gr by weight) BH209 with a 300 grain Parker ballistic extreme w/ MMP HPH/12 sabot.

10 year old son shooting 120 grains by volume(84gr by weight) BH 209 a 275 grain Parker ballistic extreme with supplied sabot from Parker.

My 5 shot group at 100 yds. My sons 3 shot group at 100 yards. We just need to draw a tag!!!!!

Hey DIY,
What kind of velocity are you getting with your load? I just picked up my 700 ULM from my local FFL and hope to shoot it soon, well after bedding, trigger adjusting, and scope install. I have read good things about using the Parker Match Hunter bullets in MMP sabots in the UML.

CVA Accura (pre V2), Leupold 3-9X40 scope. Shooting 250 grain Barnes TEZ pushed by 100 grains of granular FF 777. Lit by Winchester 209 777 primers. Shoots amazing out to 215 yards or so. I'm sure it would still be shooting good further just haven't put it on paper. I have killed three muleys with this setup from 165-212 yards all one shot kills and great bullet performance. I have recovered one bullet which was a perfect Barnes copper flower. Based on the extensive wounds on the other two deer I would guess the bullet expanded and worked perfect.

Got Several of them!

But the Gun I Hunt with is:

Remington ML 700!

Stainless Of Course!

50 Caliber!

600 Grain Power Punch Slugs!

90 Grains of 3fff Black Nasty!

The Gun has Destroyed three 1X Scopes now!

She'll Black & Blue a Shoulder with one Squeeze of the Trigger!

She's got a little Stomp!

huntbambi,

With the 150 grains of BH209 and 300 grain Parker extreme getting 2380 fps

Withe the 120 grains of BH209 and 275 grain Parker extreme getting 2070 fps

Only had a trigger job done and scope mounted by a good gunsmith. Did not bed it. Make sure for the hot loads of the BH 209 use the MMP Black HPH/12 Sabot. As it is thicker and will not melt. Have not tried the Parker match hunters but have read good things about them being used with the ultimate.

DIY,

Are you using 150 grains of BH209 by volume or weight?

I'm loading 100 grains by weight and it packs a huge kick.

Thanks,

Daaang. If I get over 100 gr (volume), the recoil gets to much for me and my neck. Glad you guys can take it. Of course, my load is plenty for elk, so for me it works.

Muzzle brakes are definitely beneficial in reducing the felt recoil. With 105 gr by weight and a 325 gr bullet it kills on one end and maims on the other.

I use a Simms pad on my z5 Omega.Short stock and it gives me the eye relief I need with the scope...and no recoil now.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-27-15 AT 09:37PM (MST)[p]I live and hunt in the Colorado Rockies. My style of hunting is still hunting, so I don't need a load for long shots. I only hunt in the timber.

So, I need a gun that's light, shoulders fast, and with a low powered scope.

I use an Accura MR Nitride with a 1.5x4.5 scope, and pretty much leave it on 1.5X power.

My load is 100gr of Pyrodex, and a PT Gold 300gr, or a Barnes 290gr T-EZ. I use it for elk, muley's, and bear.

They are if you hunt with your muzzleloader in the regular gun seasons (not the special muzzy season)

txhunter58

venor, ergo sum (I hunt, therefore I am)

Exactly. I hunt the rifle seasons.

When I do hunt the ML season i'll switch to conicals, and open sights, but that won't be this year.

I like the cooler weather of the rifle seasons.

Thank goodness our oversee of facts,
txhunter58 approved that.

Other, it would just be rumor, or bad
information.

I could confuse you even more by using a scope in muzzleloader season, and be legal.

Then you'd call me a liar if I told you I can use a scoped crossbow in archery season, but I can.

I wouldn't do either of those, but it's legal for me to do it. You could too if you had my vision.

I actually put myself at a disadvantage to the other rifle hunters instead of being at an advantage during muzzy season.

Just because i'm such a swell guy. :)

I too use the Remington Ultimate (no need for a duplicate pic of that rifle) but I've only shot the 250 gr Rem Accu tip bullets so far. They've shot around 1.5-2"groups at 100 yards with 100 grains (by actual weight) of BH209.

If I draw a ML deer tag for a LE area in Utah, I'll be scrambling to get my hands on some 300 gr Parker match hunters and see what it does with those pills.

Fun and new stuff for me!

Zeke

T/C Encore 50 cal with Bellm TCS tuned trigger, 120 gr Triple 7, 250 gr Barnes Expander MZ. It will put three of them in an inch or less at 100 yds if I do my part. 4x Nikon scope for Missouri, 1x Simmons scope for Utah. Just picked up a T/C Triumph 50 cal but haven't had the chance to shoot it yet.

The critters have to win every time. I only have to win once.

Sam, I see where you had a Bellm TCS tuned trigger installed on your TC Encore ML rifle. Please tell me more about this. I have an older TC Encore and the trigger is a 'hard one' to pull smoothly and confidently. I looked up Bellm and Company on the internet and read their information. Would appreciate your opinion concerning having my Encore's trigger re-worked and tuned. Cow Tag

I shoot a Savage 10ML-II with a thumbhole stock
with Williams rear peep WRGS .09 aperture
with Lyman front globe sight
with Lee Shaver inserts
105 grains volume of BH 209
300 grain Thor bullets
Federal 209a primer

it shoots 1.5" groups at 100 yards with open sights

Lee's inserts are the best I found...very thin and precision engineered...they certainly helped me with my 50ish eyes... I found that to be the biggest challenge in setting up my muzzy, being able to see the open sights clearly while at the same time being able to focus on the target/animal...you can also combine two of his inserts inside the globe front sight...I usually unscrew my aperture from the front peep sight when hunting in the trees, it will act like a ghost sight and give you a larger vision radius to get on your target easier...
